burning the film on your mask

I'm sure there are many people on SB with different methods, but I've always used toothpaste. Just rub it on the glass and wash it off. I've done that with all my masks and never had a problem. Prior to diving, I either use some commercial anti-fog spray or spit on the glass and rub it in...

Amounts of pressure within 33 ft?

The only reason you get taught that every 33ft the pressure increases 1 ATM is because it’s an easy way to relay the information. I would be a lot more difficult to teach novice divers algebraic equations to figure out pressure or give you an inch by inch or foot by foot pressure difference...

3mil or 5 mil in Jan. for a Florida girl?

I'm from Florida (Miami) also, but live in NC now. My Florida blood still runs through me and I’m always wearing more than everyone else. While everyone else is at 5mm, I’m wearing 7mm or dry suit....while everyone else is diving in 3mm, I’m in a 5mm. So if you're blood is as much Floridian...

Have you had to call off a dive?

I've called off quite a few dives. On Saturday I had to call off a dive. The seas were 5 to 7 feet, which didn't make much of a difference since we were on a 50' boat. Underwater there was very little visibility and a strong current, so I called off the dive. Rough seas, strong current and...

    Thoughts on Dive Training Article?

I've always been on boats that deployed a line and it has always helped me in rough conditions. I even deploy a line on my personal boat and on a few occasions, it has prevented me from a long hard swim back to the boat. I figured it was an industry standard to always deploy a line at the aft...

    Thoughts on Dive Training Article?

I have only been on a handful of boats with the aforementioned latter. On most boats you will have to remove your fins prior to getting on the ladder or you will not be able to get on the boat, period. On my personal boat, I don't have that ladder either so I have to either keep the fins...

    Just a quick question

There is a lawsuit about bad air? I had no idea about that, but then again I spend most of my time in 3rd world countries with no access to the real world so not knowing about a current event doesn't suprise me.

    Getting into Tech Diving

I thank you all for your recommendations. I will take an intro to tech course prior to gear considerations so I'm more knowledgeable in what I want in tech gear. I brought this up mainly because I know exactly what I like in rec gear, but it sure has made me purchase a lot of gear in the past...

    Getting into Tech Diving

I will be taking my first tech diving courses in about another year, but would like to get the gear I will need together so I don’t' have to purchase it all at once. I am just looking to get into wreck diving no deeper than 160 fsw, so don’t need side mounts or anything crazy gear I might need...

    Best choice

For years I refused to pay the extra money to get an Atomic regulator, but I finally gave in and purchased one about a year ago. I must say, I love it! Of course, it hasn't been up for servicing yet...so we'll see what happens there. Either way, I think it was well worth it. I have about 10...

    Insurance Question....

You cannot pay for more than a year with DAN, I called and asked a few years ago because I think just like you do. I settled for the auto-pay feature, but you still have to remember to call them when you get a new card (ran into that already). DAN will send you e-mails though.

What is diving southeastern Florida like?

Sorry for the double post, but didn't see Jupiter's post. I have dove many times with RJ's diving and I agree he probably is the best to go on in Miami. Although I haven't been to all the dive charters in Miami. I rarely use dive charters in Miami. A lot of the dive shops in Miami use RJ to...

What is diving southeastern Florida like?

I like you live in the middle of the eastern coast and can feel your pain with the long boat rides to get to dive sites. I grew up in Miami, so have dived in the area a lot. I still do dive there a lot since i have family down there (helps to have a free place to stay). Haven't done much in...

    Just a quick question

There will be no taste to the air. As mentioned above, it is dry and might be somewhat uncomfortable your first few dives, but you get used to it. Just enjoy yourself. Also, as stated above...if the air tastes unlike regular air, tell your instructor. But if you manage to get a hold of...

    Newbie here, need regulator advice

I wouldn't worry too much about "quality", cause in recreational diving you shouldn't experience extremes (unless you are doing cold water). I have many regulators, some expensive high end models and a lot of low end models. All of them have never failed me and get used all the time; since I...

Diving instructor faces court over death

Previous posts mentioned how we do not have all the details, which I agree is imperative in understanding who’s at fault and why it happened. I am not a SCUBA instructor, but have been an in instructor for various subjects in the military along with being a civilian firearms instructor. One of...

Home Owners Association - Going Ballistic

I still have no idea why anyone would want to pay money so someone can tell them what they can or cannot do to thier house. I avoided HOAs like the plague when I was purchasing my house. I found some good deals in HOA areas, but scratched those locations right off the list once I found out...
