Just my 2 cents worth. A dive to the Grove then back to back on the Dwayne is a pretty aggressive profile. The operator probably should have done a shallow reef dive for the second dive. I’ve dove the Dwayne multiple times. Current can be ripping.
I’ve been using Nomad XT’s now for 15 years in cave country. From the very first edition to dual bladder to now my current 3 year old XT. Not a real good travel unit. But cave diving with a drysuit, steel 120’s, stage and deco bottle I’ve been happy and won’t change.
Better look into the price of helium. It may alter your diving progression. If only a vacation diver helium might not be an issue. But if you’re going to do 2 times a week all year you might consider CCR.
Since this is the advanced forum I’ll add my 2 cents worth. At this stage of your diving game you’ll need more gear. I dive with 3 mission specific setups.
1 Twinset backplate wing and harness
2 Nomad XT sidemount with twin 120’s for cave diving
3 ScubaPro Hydros Pro for open water...
I’ve spent multiple weeks at CoCo View and on the morning drop off Newman’s Wall and afternoon drop off dive at CoCo View wall I vary my depth by just 5 feet and it truly is a different dive. Many resident critters only travel about 15 feet from their homes so it’s fun to revisit them for a...
There is no such thing as recreational sidemount. I’ll quote from the inventor of sidemount harness Lamar Hires owner of Dive Rite. There are only two reasons for going sidemount. 1 mission specific. 2 personal lifestyle.
I realize this topic is posted in the basic forum. But my typical cave dive has me carrying multiple cylinders. Steel 120’s sidemount, single AL 40 for deco and a single AL 80 for stage diving. So I’m used to carrying multiple cylinders with different gasses. But when I recreational dive in...
The dual outlet single cylinder valve either Y valve or H valve has long since gone out of favor with today’s technical training agencies. What was popular 20-30 years ago is not acceptable now. Twin cylinders either backmount independent or manifold doubles or sidemount is what is being...
in regards to your opinion of the coral and reef health. I live in North Florida 98% of my diving are cave dives now. However I dove Pennekamp in the early 70’s. It’s been loved to death. The only decent dives there are the deep wrecks. Dwayne & Bibb perhaps the Grove too. They are too deep...
Agree. I am not aware if the lines were student lines or out of state vacation cave divers. There is the reason the gold line ends in the cavern zone. So as to avoid the issue of multiple lines in a high flow congested area.
