Where should i do a basic cave course?

I am not a GUE diver but I have read the official GUE books (Fundamentals, getting clear on the basics, beyond daylight). IMHO, GUE promotes a valid divestyle and does not pretend this the only one correct way of dive.

You never know where your skills will come in handy . . .

Congratulations Lynne. Have you thank the local dive club for the free and surprise refreshing cave's skills session ? ;) That's why I always maintain physical contact with the descent line if there is one. If there is enough viz, I watch the line in order to detect any fishhook or other...

    I'm curious about sidemount

I'm afraid, this is a little more complicated than OC in BM where a "standard" tec config (Hogarthian) can be used as a reference. Usually HP hoses are shorter in SM and stage tanks than BM. But gauges ? Unless you can not dive with 2 same cylinders (both volume and pressure), I recommend to...

    I'm curious about sidemount

You can also use the pony bottle system : dive with a "small" (5,7L - 40cf) and a "big" tank (11,1L - 80cf), use only the small. It's not "elegant" or powerful but it works correctly for recreational, shallow and non overhead water. In case of emergency, the remaining air in the small plus the...

    Diving in Corsica

Corsican roads are mountain roads. So I strongly suggest you to choose less than 3 places unless you want to spend your holidays in a car.

    Diving in Normandy, France

If your dive is supervised by a operator and you are planning to go deeper than 40 meters, you will have to show a CMAS 3* diver cert (or a French level 3 cert), any other card (except of course CMAS 2* Instructor and above) will be rejected (that's the regulation), even a "herectic" (TDI...

French law (code de la consommation L122-1) prohibits the refusal to sell (or lease). No law or regulation authorizes the retailer to subordinate the sale or rental of equipment to the presentation of a certification.

Opposable only for dives which are organized in a dive club. I suggest you to double check your assumptions about local regulations prior to contradict a native.

The European card covers a part of the medical fees (which is payed by the "Sécurité sociale", the French State medical insurance, for French people) but European travelers may have some expenses to assume. An travel or diving insurance may be useful. Some divers wear a drysuit even in...

Sure. There isn't any rule which applies to on their own divers, except about local rules (usually in lakes and protected areas) and hydrostatic test for tanks. But if you have your own compressor ... You should first tell us where do you want to dive, Caribbeans, Indian ocean, Mediterranean...
