I can vouch for Deepswim. He is indeed the one who shot the video and all of his info is correct so far.

He guys. I just wanted to clear things up again. The free diver you speak of does not work at the Dive Locker. He is a just a loyal customer.

    Would you dive Vortex now????

I know that bodies are lost at "sea" all the time never to be seen again. However, if there is a one in a million chance of me seeing it, then I would rather avoid it. Down the road there is a much prettier spring, which is also free to enter. I got into to diving because it was fun, and I...

    Would you dive Vortex now????

I have actually been toying with the idea of at least getting my cavern certification. Like I said before I don't have a real interest in caverns and caves, and respect those that do, but I feel it is training that would be beneficial to have. I absolutely love Morrison, although on...

    Would you dive Vortex now????

Yes. Most of my diving is gulf. I love diving the gulf. I go to the Springs for training. I absolutely love Morrison and it's natural surroundings. I am not interested in cavern or cave diving otherwise I would dive it and Vortex more often.

    Would you dive Vortex now????

I would like to say that I do not want to go there until a body is recovered. I have discussed it with some recovery team guys, and if he was wedged in a tight spot, there would be a chance of one day him breaking free. I would not want to dive there if there is a chance of a body floating up...

    General Vortex Incident Discussion

He was going through a Dive Con course which is a Dive Master/A.I. combo, but was not finished with it. Before he ever started the course with another shop he had spoke to one of our instructors who refused to put him through the course due to his ego. The way he talked and everything he was...

Unfortunately, putting plaques there will not discourage the divers who feel there skills are superior than others. This guy felt his skills were as good as those with training. The cave instructors, ow instructors and experieced cave divers, and the sign, the lock on the gate, warned him of...

You should not be back in there unless you are trained. If you are trained then you know to carry lights. Most cave systems to my knowledge do not have lights. This one, the former owner put them in and then shut them off when he sold the property. He recently had them turned back on not even...

Also, there is a difference between being adventurous and foolish. Never go beyond your training. There is a reason why they created training and special equipment for cave diving, respect it.

I have noticed a few comments about the video so I will clear a few things up. I know the person who shot the video and have spoken to him. Where they are at in the cave is called the "piano room" the lights were recently turned back on. The guy shooting the video is obviously not a cave diver...

    General Vortex Incident Discussion

As of a couple of weeks ago he was still working on his dive con. He was wanting to work on our boats as a divemaster but did not have the certification so our insurance would not cover it.

My concern with more volunteering would be if they are not familiar with the Vortex system. I am not a cave diver, but I could only imiagine it would be very dangerous for someone to try to recover a body in a cave system they have never entered before. Like I said I am not a cave diver so I...

Vortex Missing Diver Incident - Aug 2010

I've heard on the news that they are trying to find more divers to help with the efforts. Is this working with those like Edd and such? or are they finished with the efforts?

Vortex Missing Diver Incident - Aug 2010

First, I find it unfortunate that the thread is turning angry. To those family and friends who are reading the posts please do not attack people who are trying to prevent this from happening to another person. It is a horrible situation, and one we can all sympathize with. However, this is an...

Vortex Missing Diver Incident - Aug 2010

I know that he came through our shop several times in the last few weeks. He was asking one of our cave instructors about classes. Once he found out the price he was no longer interested. I am not sure if he went to another shop inquiring. I also know that he told us that he tried to dive the...

    Morrison Springs Debacle

I usually have no problem gearing up on the ground or the car except I try to obey the "no parking" signs on the curb. I recently had a baby (2 mths. ago) and I have been cleared for diving, but not supposed to be lifting heavy objects. It would have been nice to have a table to sit my gear on...

    Morrison Springs Debacle

Cave Diver, yes it is the same lady that said no to three kids when they asked if they could share a table. And to the posts before, it doesn't matter if you have been around longer or not, it is a public park, no one owns it other than the state. And no one had even mentioned Dive Locker or...
