    Looking for a good Computer

Ok - seems everyone has their fav computer / set up. Mine - wrist computer / watch. Use it as a watch during surface time. I'm a big fan of keeping things simple - I just don't like the idea of AI - another thing to fail. Not that I've seen many fail - perhaps 2 over the past 6 years. The...

    troubles with weight and bouyancy?

Ummmm....regarding the BC for buoyancy not the suit...THIS NEEDS A STRONG DOSE OF CAUTION. Just be real careful here. Best practice - certainly in training is to use just one "device" to add and remove air from. You have to add air to the suit to aviod a squeeze, so we train folk to manage...

    AOW Thailand Help Please!

Phuket is full or schools - most of which are good. Personally I can recomend Phuket Scuba Club - I think a guy( or gal) called Ringo posts here. look on the Thai travel board, or Scuba cat. Ask to get a video done by Matt....and mention me. I'm bias but I perfer Phi Phi...lots of great...

Q for those who are newly certified

M-fish. I agree totally. go some place else - maybe that evening try something she's a star at and your not ! choose your instructor carefully - or rather let her choose. If the ins. won't give you the time in the shop then ditch them and go else where. Once happy leave the teaching to them ...

    nitrox advantage?

I think that getting your nitrox c card is a great idea - if only to learn ( as someone said) a little more about the physics of diving. BUT to extend your bottom time - the best (and IMHO safest way) would be to buy yourself a computer - doesn't have to be expensive, sunnto moskito has done...

    Regulator question

all great answers - i'll add one thing else - weight ! believe me, it makes a difference if you have to travel with all your gear. I love apeks tx range but ditched it in favour of a lighter aqualung - same with my BC , fins etc etc. If this does not really apply then I'd go for apeks, BUT...

    troubles with weight and bouyancy?

All great answers and I'd agree with most of the points. However it's worthwhile having a think about the physics of diving and buoyancy. Most newbies and some instructors (!!!!! @@@?!) believe that it's OK to overweight a diver because - well so what, you can compensate by adding a bit...

    Newbie Q's

Not much more to add here. But I'd say its very much like flying - safe but very unforgiving if things go wrong. If you read some of the accident reports they never start "It was a beautiful day, all my gear had been serviced, I'd done some checkout dives, I was diving well withing my...

    silly question about swimming shorts/trunks

Lycra running shorts - they dry out pretty quick on the boat. anything else and I end up with nappy rash !!!!!! I always try to change out of my swim shorts in to boardies after the dive. nomatter how short the SInt is. Just feels more comfortable. alternatively dive commando !! :) - but...

    Upcoming Roatan trip ?'s

Hey guys, I use to work in West End - most of the dive shops are pretty good but some of them serve slightly different markets and therefore offer different things. west End divers tend to be a youngish crowd ( nothing wrong in that ). Personally ( and of course I'm bias) I'd give Ocean...

    Phi Phi

I stand corrected ! I was always told "many ghosts" but I never really liked that explanation - gave me the creeps !! Ringo - I think a Dutch friend of mine, Jetje and her boyfreind Pip stayed with you at PKT SC last year - early 2006. They reported good things about you. Always good to...

    Phi Phi

don't worry - typically the viz drops due to the moon but recovers soon enough - I've no idea what the moon is doing over there right now - BUT, although it might sound cold comfort, never forget, plankton, means lots of fish - and perhaps a few big guys - you just wont be able to see them ...

    Phi Phi

Kay is back in England now - She split form here Thai husband. She did some very good work following the Tsunami. Jess was managing visa last season but could be somewhat abrassive with the dive team. Personally I had no problem. glad ot hear the big beasts are back.

Hi there - I'm very jelous. I worked on Phi Phi for many years, got caught up in the events of late 2004 but was back in 2005. This is my fist season that I won't be there due to the bith of our baby boy - I'm both happy but sad !! Send a mail to clare at blue view divers -...

Roatan, a little party, a little diving... suggestions?

I worked for Ocean Connections in West End for 6 months last year. The owner, Phil Stevens is a legend. He knows so much about Roatan and diving and the shop is first rate. Coconut is also good but it caters to a slightly younger party crowd. Obviously I'm biasd but my vote would be "go to ocean...

Buoyancy control and orientation in the water?

Ok, i agree with all the technical advice and math but how much weight a diver ( esp a student) carries is really dependent on how he breathes. Yeah, size, exposure suit and all the obvious stuff apart. So....try this. At 7 mtrs with a buddy close to you, empty your BCD and remove your weight...
