    Info SCTLD closures on Bonaire

I can say having heard from STINAPA they already agree with your approach. If you stay with Red then you can wait to disinfect till after your day is done. Their preference is for you stay in the same sector, so if you are diving something special you stay in the general vicinity but at a min...

    Question Coral Disease in Bonaire

It is low season so cruise ships are minimal now compared to what it will be in November. But most who live here either part-time or full would rather them be gone. Ever been in the water nearby when those engines start-up or even the horns?

Are there any long term stay options?

It does depend on the time of year and the rental location. On the water and between Nov through March is high season and most rentals have increased their daily rate so they are not looking for long-term stays.

Fast Moving Coral Disease Alert on Bonaire

Just what we do not want to happen in Bonaire. One big difference is with the first sighting in Sept 2020 and they did not aggressively attack. I will stand with STINAPA let's do what we can control early. Also looks like STINAPA's Coral Spawning Calendar is the rage with ROATAN to put together...

Fast Moving Coral Disease Alert on Bonaire

That is the perfect response. Instead of complaining or posting that there is no proof and why should we do it. Just go with what STINAPA wants everyone as divers to do or decide to dive elsewhere.

Fast Moving Coral Disease Alert on Bonaire

Have not read this all yet but a FB message: The causative agent of the disease may be in the water column and sediments (and thus transmissible by diver equipment), if this research study (https://doi.org/10.3389/fmicb.2020.00681) turns out to be correct. They found two families of bacteria...

So rather than take the more cautious approach and be a help even if it is a stopgap - you are screw them I am not doing anything different. Always easy to say when you have no skin in the game.

Trip Report Dive Trip Apr 10-17, 2023

Good call, I am afraid far too many doing shore dives are ignoring the procedures and taking the STINAPA guidelines seriously by not staying in the same area to do your dives for the day and possibly helping spread the disease.
