    rotometals.com is a good source for inexpensive reclaimed lead shot with free freight but I don't think that will help the OP being in Argentina:dontknow: you might try a local media blasting company they use lead shot you can also call around a few shooting ranges and ask if they have any...

    I use a 3MM shorty in salt water also and the sand works just fine there as well and I use 23 to 29 lbs of ballast depending on whether it is fresh or salt water.

    I make weight bags out of thick mil plastic that will fit in my weight pockets and fill them with wet sand that I weigh out on my digital scales the water causes the sand to keep its shape inside the bag plus adds a little weight. excellent material for ballast and the best part it is free.

    Yep you could make a wood plug and Vac form them with a home made plantum. you can also make a plug, Wax it and make a fiber glass or carbon fiber back plate.

    I use ear plugs and nose plugs and have no problems clearing my ears or mask using the devices.
