    License for water taxi.

Old thread...but you need a '25 Ton Master Inland' to run a water taxi assuming it is an inspected vessel serving passengers within the Boundary Line. You don't need a Captain's license to run a boat for pleasure.

Looking to scare up some all-season dive buddies

I'm looking to extend my network of dive buddies. My wife likes to dive but prefers warm water (with the exception of the Isle of Shoals). I've been diving since 1998, dive dry year round, own all my own gear (doubles, singles, deco bottles, etc.), and enjoy most any kind of dive from...

New certified divers heading to Oahu

My wife and I just returned from Oahu. The local dive shops we contacted were not willing to give much information about shore diving. We got the feeling they were really trying to push charter boat dives. The power plant would be a good spot but beware of the ripping current coming from...

    Hanauma Bay

Unreal...my wife and I dove there Wed and Thu of last week for the first time. There is definitely some current to contend with on ebb tide. You definitely have to take your time and plan for much greater air burn if returning in ebb. What a terrible tragedy...

    Aquarium Diving

I dove in the New England Aquarium tank once and it was really a great/unique experience. I think it's great the Baltimore aquarium allows the public to dive there.

    Spring Diving in New England

Ha ha - never - many of us dive year round in dry suits. Seriously though, I too would suggest RI for a wetsuit dive as it will be 5-8 degrees warmer than Cape Ann MA for example.

    Looking for used AL 80

Agreed. South Shore Divers is offering a great deal on new AL 80's actually. $225 for the tank and a card for 10 air fills. I didn't need the valve (my regs are DIN) and was able to save a few extra bucks by supplying my own valve. I decided to buy new based on this deal. The tanks have a...

    Looking for used AL 80

Anyone have a used AL 80 for sale with current VIP and hydro? My single just failed a VIP after 12 good years and I'm looking for a replacement.

    Anyone diving tomorrow (Sat)?

I suspect we have tomorrow morning as the only viable weather window (such that it is) for this weekend. Anyone planning to head out?

    Dry gloves for N.E.

I too wonder why anyone voluntarily uses wet gloves in MA. I have used the Diving Concepts neoprene dry gloves for 5 years. They have been good gloves and I use them for everything...wrecks...lobstering..etc. As with any gloves, holes will develop and they need to be repaired. I have also...

    Cape Ann 9/19

To be clear, there are no bathrooms or restaurant at Folly Cove (the post above referenced Front Beach). I have not been to Folly in 2 years, but the last time (and for the 8 years prior to that) the entry was not 'bad' if you can find a path to avoid the basketball size rocks, but at dead low...

    Santorini

You would not be disappointed with the diving in Santorini. (We also dive in Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Costa Rica, etc.) The only caveat is the water temp, even in the dead of summer they dive with 5mm suits. The island itself is amazing, just idyllic scenery everywhere. The food is also...

    Santorini

The wife and I just returned from Santorini. I think it's a very underrated dive destination! The vis is excellent and the topography dramatic. The water is cold; you need no less than a 5mm suit and I would prefer a 7mm. You do not need hood and gloves. There are not as many fish as...

    Nice/Monaco

Old thread...but I too would recommend the above shop. I went diving with them 2 years ago. Not much fish, but the topography was dramatic and the vis good. They pumped music into the water for safety stops and served wine aboard the vessel...too funny.

    Will entertain partnership offers.

That vessel has been for sale for years....

    Diver lost off Gloucester...Any info?

Such a tragedy...I dove on the Poling 8 days prior and I was working in Boston Harbor Monday when I heard the USCG issue the alert on the VHF. Your heart sinks when you hear that call. Condolences to the family and friends.
