Trip Report MALPELO review on the Ferox liveaboard

Thanks for a nice report. I'm thinking about going in mid-January; any thoughts on what sort of marine life might be plentiful at that time? Weather and sea conditions? Best, Matt

    FRENCH POLYNESIA MASTER LIVEABOARD

Yes, the boat moved between atolls. The shortest transit was about 3 hrs. and the longest was about 9 hrs. These were done at night. We had nice weather and smooth sailing. The boat cruises at about 10 - 12 knots.

    FRENCH POLYNESIA MASTER LIVEABOARD

The flight from PAPEETE to FAKARAVA was about 1 1/2 HRS. and from RANGIROA to PAPEETE maybe a little shorter. They use those great ATR Biturboprops - really nice airplanes. Best, Matt

    FRENCH POLYNESIA MASTER LIVEABOARD

Depth limits were governed by NITROX mixture - mostly 33, but we had a few tanks of 32 . Also, I said the inflatables carried 4 - 6 divers; in fact they carried 3 - 5 divers plus one dive master. Best, Matt

    FRENCH POLYNESIA MASTER LIVEABOARD

Sara and I were on this boat from July2 - July12, 2017 for a cruise through the Tuamotu Atolls. We made our first dives at Toau, then moved to Fakarava South, then Fakarava North, Apataki and then finished up at Rangiroa. We had an absolutely wonderful time and I give this boat my highest...

Article: Should Shark Week Focus on Conservation?

Dr. Bill, Did you see the Blues and Makos in the waters surrounding Catalina? How deep was the water? In the 60s would it have been common to see a Blue or a Mako at Ship Rock or at Casino Point? I think of them as being deep water sharks.
