jimmys - Can you tell us how this worked out? My 200 is doing the very same thing right now...

    Lake Pleasant dive in Jan????

While viz at Canyon can be pretty low (5-10'), I recall having better viz there than Pleasant last winter. Viz even topping 20-25' on several occasions.... Location on/in the lake may play a part here. In any case, if you'll be in AJ, it's nice and close and may be worth checking out. Pretty...

    Laguna Beach Accomodations?

Hey SoCal divers, I usually visit La Jolla or Catalina for shore diving, but would like to check out some of the Laguna Beach area dive sites on a future visit (driving out from AZ). Does anyone have any suggestions for accomodations with reasonable room-rates? diver-friendly? Any travel tips...

    New member of AZ Scuba

Hi Ed, Welcome to Scubaboard and AZScuba. There's a bunch of us AZ divers out at the local lakes pretty regularly. Conditions at Lake Pleasant have been pretty decent by desert standards lately... at least where I've been diving. One of these days we'll have to arrange a group...

Diving in San Diego in the beginning of August?

I'm sure some of the CA divers will chime in with more details, but if you're in SD, La Jolla may be your best bet for shore diving. You should be pretty comfortable in a 7mm wetsuit. Catalina is also a nice destination, although depending on your schedule it may or may not be worth the trip...

    Lake Pleasant Dive Boat

Yep, we do indeed see fish out there (and pick up plenty of trash too)! I'm horrible with freshwater fish ID, but there are bunches if you're in the right place at the right time... Last time out, even saw a bunch of little fish babies hanging out in some grass - eyeballs with tails :D

    Lake diving in Arizona?

Actually, the past few weeks at Pleasant have been nice. 20+ ft. viz and the water level is up... The warmer it gets, the more viz drops. Saw some nice conditions at Canyon Lake too over the winter - bit chilly though. There are some cool rock formations if you know where to look in the local...

    AZ divers???

Welcome to the board, NASAdives... Hope you are getting a few dives in here & there. I hit the local lakes as often as I can in between CA or Mexico trips. Is there any decent diving down south (AZ)?

AZ Divers-Lake Pleasant Water Temps Lately

68 degrees last weekend - There is a cliff near the Dirty Shirt area that is now completely submerged. Slip your fins on in 4ft. of water, take a step, and drop down to 50'... Nice site! Also, viz was pretty good for the local lakes - maybe 20-25 feet. There was a thermocline around 50', and...

    Thank heavens for PADI

This has (almost) all been good reading, but c'mon.... Honestly, I think you can say whatever you want about agencies and standards, but it all really comes down to a few things. There are good and bad instructors/DMs in any agency. You pass - or not - by their decision. You can choose an...

Where was your first OW dive?

First OW dives (following checkout dives) were at the Coronados Islands of Mexico. The boat was great fun, and after doing checkout dives in a local lake, we were floored by our first ocean experience. My eyes popped wide as soon as my mask hit the water... all those clouds of fish hanging in...

    San Diego - Hydrodiver

...And 2 years later... I found this in another thread: "I have also dove with Hydrodiver, www.hydrodiver.com , this is a small boat. He takes only 6 divers. He will go to wreck alley and the kelp beds around Point Loma. I like this outfit. It is owner operated and he treats you very well by...

a few days to change my mind

I currently dive with a Veo 200 and am happy with it. It was an economical choice that currently serves all of the purposes it needs to. Decent set of features for the price - including Nitrox compatability... Remember to shop around! I also second the idea that you should try before you buy...

    SoCalers, stand up!

Well, I cant tell if this thread has wandered off course or not, but I may be a SoCal Diver... Living in AZ, I get to the ocean as often as I can, and try to make it to SoCal at least once a month. I also have met the super-amazing-fantabulous DrBill, at an (aborted?) SB Casino Point event in...

Strongly considering solo diving - lets talk

I think the underlying idea throughout this thread is that we all need to take responsibility for ourselves. Not just our words or actions, but also the situations we allow ourselves to get into. Let others ruin your dive or don't, help others or don't, dive solo or don't, but please don't...

    Rrrr Maties... Spanish Diablons

To date: bottles, cans, fishing lures, one shoe, one 2lb weight, and a dive slate dropped by a buddy on a previous dive. Oh yeah... :$$:

    Casino Point warning!

I wouldn't consider gear safe in the open either. When I was out there last month, my buddy and I witnessed a few passers-by digging in some gear bags left by the stairs on a friday night. We watched closely, but nothing was taken. We used the lockers. The following day we used lockers again...

    a newbie

Welcome to the board. This is the place to meet some divers and pick up a bit of knowledge. Don't be afraid to ask questions - you'll find plenty of people willing to help out or offer opinions. :wanna:

Dive buddy for La Jolla Cove???

TonyC, I took a trip to La Jolla earlier this year with my wife (non-diver) and hired a DM from OEX. We dove the Marine Room, which was the DM's choice. I have no complaints about the experience and would recommend the shop - it's very close to the water. Miguel, Not sure exactly what...
