Recommend any homestays in Raja Ampat?

Many home stays offer cheaper accommodation as opposed to the bigger resorts, in the end you get what you pay for, such as rats, cockroaches and no fans. We can all live this way for a few days, and rough it, but if you plan to dive with any of these operators (if you can call them that) you...

New DiveriteTransplate harness, Bacplate, Travel Wing, got setup questions

I too had the same problem, but went with the plastic screw and then also considered the STA to simplify assembly and stabilize tank, but was advised not to use STA by DGX after they mentioned it would change my balance characteristics in the water, and it was not necessary.

    Papua Explorers Resort-Raja Ampat

Express Air out Thieves, they overcharged my baggage by credit card 3 times nearly $500, and after 20 emails and promises they never returned my money, Luckily I had a USAA Master Card and they disputed if for me

I'm a noob who just acquired a Scubapro Knighthawk...

I have had mine for over 10 years or less 1,000 dives and it's starting to show seem wear down near the pockets, I guide and teach in it, in mainly tropical waters, weight pockets work fine too, only drawback is storage.... you made a great choice

Is there a reasonably priced land resort in Raja Ampat?

Hello Mikey Yes I am receiving a pay check here at Kri right now, but I will honestly say their new young managers are 'kicking ass' with the resort and many new upgrades. And one is Canadian too...only fair to mention... :)

How's the diving condition at Sekotong (Southwest Lombok)

Pac Man, with all due respect to Cocotino's and their resort, if you are a serious diver contact the Dive Zone who can arrange diving and accommodation closer to the dive sites of southwest Lombok, having worked in that area for 3 seasons I know it pretty well and enjoy it greatly. Please...

    Raja vs North Sulawesi

Currently working in Raja at a land based resort, having been to Bunaken and the Bangka Islands going back the last 20 years I always remember them as great places, and let's don't forget Komodo either, simply amazing. But to have Mantas literally jumping out of the water at you each day and...

Indonesian Domestic Flights (Lion Air) - Luggage Concerns

Yes, Mike is right, fees depend upon your destination ranging from 5,500 IDR per kilo from Bali to Lombok up to and over 40,000 IDR per kilo for long haul (Jakarta to Sorong) I would heed the advice and take as many carry on as possible I had 3 carry-ons including backpack with laptop, Reg case...

I stay at Kri now, and don't see what the problem is, new management here has fixed up the rooms and gone out of their way to make it better overall.

    The Down Current Killer

Interesting reading everyone's post, but having worked as an instructor/guide in Indonesian the last 3 years, and in some of the most 'current and surge' prone areas there are, there is not alot you can do. Except don't dive! We made the decisions more than a few times this season when...

    RIP Quero

So, so sad, I just learned this news moments ago as I just opened up SB. Marcia will be missed on SB and the dive community in general, my deepest sympathies go out to her family. I still can't believe this, although we only met once at MIDE in KL, I feel like I knew her well from all her post...

What's up with the Expedition Fleet?

I think it was the Oceanic Explorer I was on back in around 2006 or 07, she was starting to look a 'bit jaded' back then, but overall it was a great trip!

Open Water Course - Indonesia (near Bali)

I might be a bit 'biased but the Dive Zone in south Lombok has excellent diving and is rather off the beaten path, so you might have an instructor to yourself! PM me for more info. Dive Lombok - the southern Gili islands - DiveZone Lombok - Discover South Lombok ? Dive the Difference!

I wish I would have brought...

Just to chime in guys, I agree and highly recommend some sort of re-hydration packets, I know Thailand carries a few different brands, and if in a pharmacy in Bali, some ear drop anti-biotic although some liveaboards might carry all of this! Kleenex or tissue, well you are on your own....lol;)

    Where to dive in Indonesia?

I would agree with mostly everything said, and pay special attention to the South Lombok area, good diving, remote and great value.

ScubaPro Knighthawk Fit / Ride Question

I love my KnightHawk, and have had at least 400 dives with it, but lately it's been bothering my, a small velcro strap on the back plate that connects harness to the plate has broken off on the back, thus making the tank floating up during my dive, I did not notice this until another instructor...
