I highly recommend Taveuni Dive Resort and their dive operation. Their location is right on Somosomo Strait and boat rides to the good dive sites are short.
Last week - did not weigh or measure in LAX with me ( I saw them measure some other passengers, but not weigh).
The trip from Nadi to LAX was a different story - measured and weighed EVERYTHING.
I would layer - definitely take a 3mm and 1mm. If you have room and resources take a hooded vest. Don't forget a wind breaker or boat coat for the boat rides, and a sweatshirt for after the dive. Even though you're in a tropical location, you will likely appreciate a sweatshirt after diving.
Just got back from Fiji - I wore a 3mm suit (no hood) on first two dives of the day, then Lavacore shirt under the 3mm for the rest of the dives that day. At the end of the last dive I was still getting little cold. Mind you, I am cold natured - accustomed to diving Gulf of Mexico with just a...
I had three bowls at a ceremony a couple years ago - it made my lips numb and that night I had really strange dreams. Other than that - no effects. Others in our party refused the kava and the locals did not seem to be offended at all.
Just got back from Kaanapali. Though it wasn't a dive vacation, I took my mask and reg in the off chance that I could sneak away. We stayed at the Westin. A guy there gives SCUBA lessons in the pool "resort course" then leads them down the beach to Black Rock for a dive. I tagged along one day -...
Can you guys recommend a good location for colorful soft coral? I would assume most Pacific spots have softies, but is there a site that really has it? I'm attracted to the small stuff more than the pelagics.
I realize that Fiji is known as the Soft Coral Capital. I went there on the Island...
This story just states that he died and had shark bites - not necessarily that he was killed by the sharks. It is possible that something else happened to cause his death and the sharks took advantage of the situation? :dontknow:
I have been considering getting a PLB. Reading these stories has really pushed me even more.
Question for you guys that have and use a PLB - do you keep the PLB in a box (Pelican, Otter, etc) or just clipped onto your harness? I mean, I know they're waterproof, but are they waterproof to...
So I take it the two missing were the ones sharing air?
One diver surfaced to say that there was trouble below and two divers got on board (the messenger and his/her buddy?).
Two missing, sharing air when last scene.
The fifth presumably diving alone and picked up a little ways away?
If you haven't gone before the good news is that not much is in season, so there's not much that you're likely to see to identify.
The bad news is that not much is in season.
I've never been a fan of "Shark Dives" or gimmicks like the glass bottom boat that bait sharks.
It isn't really necessary - if you want to see sharks get in the water and sooner or later you will. I've never been on a baited dive and I've seen several. Without trying.
My brother lives in Tuscaloosa - he called me tonight to ask me about this. My info comes from the diver's good friend there and as such is much speculation.
As I understand it he was in a spearfishing tournament and diving in deep water (beyond 150'). He surfaced with blood on his face, made...
Any PADI instructors out there know the process of getting recognized as "Master SCUBA Diver" and getting the suitable-for-framing certificate?
What I mean is...how do you actually apply for it. Let's assume you have done the AOW/pre-requisite specialties (all 5 of them)/Rescue Diver and have...
Earlier posts hinted at evidence that "B" was still in the cave - any more info on this? Are we talking about more than deco bottles - like mask, claw marks, broken line, etc?
