    Aurora Res Report 6-19-11

Boulderjohn and I are planning to meet there Thursday 6/30 at 9:00 A.M. for a couple dives. We're coming from opposite directions so we'll just meet there. I can PM you with details if you want. If a weekday doesn't work, I may be interested in getting a couple more dives in either 7/9...

    Aurora Res Report 6-19-11

I'd love to set up Thursday the 30th and we can talk over our upcoming schedules while we're there to see if any more dates work. I have no problem picking up the key.

    Aurora Res Report 6-19-11

Hmmmmmm, is this a sign? I drop in to see about getting a dive in soon, and hear about what amounts to stellar conditions at Aurora! So, I don't know about organizing a full blown group but I'm in for a couple dives. I could do Thursday 6/30 if someone wants to try a weekday morning (with...

Log books -what do you use ??

I seem to be in the minority who still use paper logs, what can I say there's just something I like about being able to physically flip through my dive history. I also like to be able to write my thoughts or draw pictures immediately after the dives. I originally made my own template using a...

    DAN Divers Alert Network

Absolutely get it. I haven't been without it since graduating basic OW. Get it and keep it even if you think there'll be a long interval between dives, the small amount of money goes towards a HUGE amount of research that eventually benefits us all.

    PADI Diving Society

Ditto. I "joined" for the magazine. I also agree that the articles tend to repeat, but so what... I tend to repeatedly dive the same sites! Honestly, it's nice to read and look at the pictures when your local conditions are far from the tropical paradise's pictured and every once in a while...

    Where do you dive?

Around Denver I usually dive Chatfield State Park which has a small scuba area in a pond adjacent to the main reservoir (fairly shallow [around 30'] with frequently poor viz) or Aurora reservoir which has a dedicated scuba area with a sunken plane to check out (again, around 30' depth with viz...

    Diving awareness

Excellent post! I still consider myself to be "early" in my dive life but have committed to being watchful for areas of improvement and mistakes to be learned from. I frequently review notes in my log regarding things I had done that were good and things I had done that need to be watched out...

    Dive logs

My compy constantly refigures on the fly so, no, I no longer figure my pressure groups from tables. I always have my tables available as a backup, but now I just look at the display as it scrolls through my "adjusted" NDL's.

    Fish species. .

I agree with Dr. Rich, I can enjoy a visit to an art museum without knowing who the artist is, or where they're from, or from what period the work was created.

    Looking for Colorado puddle...

Right now, in the Denver area, the scuba area at the Aurora Reservoir is my favorite. There's a twin engine Cessna at about 28', a few fish here and there, tons of crayfish. Water was 66 deg F last week, with viz ranging from 1' to 7' (and seems to settle down faster than at Chatfield), depth...

    wyndham cozumel resort

I stayed at the Wyndham in July and used Dive With Martin. With DWM's package pricing, I got a great deal even having to pay Sand Dollar their $3 dock fee to be picked up by an off site operator.

    Boat Experience

You'll learn some of the stuff you'll need in your OW class, so don't stress out. Also, make sure that your instructor knows that you would like to dive from boats in the future so those skills can be practiced a bit more if you don't feel comfortable. You are paying for the instruction, if you...

    Dive logs

If it's just the data that's being kept, I'd say go for a spreadsheet too. Don't know if it's still around but I think Open Office was free, had a spreadsheet tool and could be exported to other programs. Personally, I'm a paper log guy. I just like being able to go back and read all the...

Need a buddy @ Dive Resort

You are going to have such a great time! I made my first trip to Coz this summer with my non-diving wife. I let my DM know that I didn't have a "buddy" and asked if it was alright if I just stayed with him. He said, "of course!" and there was never a problem, I kept in communication with him...

    How's Aurora Res?

Absolutely! What time? I gotta work that morning ('til around 9:30) but I was hoping to get another couple dives in before the summer's over. Details, I need details.

    Mid-altitude diving

My local diving is done at around 6000', so every local dive is an altitude dive. My computer (Oceanic Veo 100) automatically adjusts for altitude but before I got it I just did the theoretical adjustments to the tables. I bought a slate that has the conversion tables printed on the back and...
