Compressor for fills at my house

Where in Ohio do you live? I have a Mako/CompAir 9300-E3 (recently rebuild 5405 block) for sale complete with a heavy duty 220V motor and filtration tower in an aluminum cage with casters. This is a heavy duty machine with big cooling coils that delivers 8 SCFM up to 5000 PSI through a DIN whip...

    Dutch Springs tank rentals

Glad you liked Lehigh Valley Dive Center. I had the same positive experience years ago. Yes, Dutch can be colder than the content of a witch's bra.

    Woefully inadequate HP80'S

Unfortunately, there are boat operators who think that recreational diving equals single tank like there are instructors who insist on octopus or jacket BC. Their argument is typically "You don't need..." which really means "I don't have the understanding/skills/incentive to ..." Just take your...

    Breathing Giving Me Trouble

I remember that my first breaths from a regulator under water felt odd and that I was hesitant to breathe. I think that this is a natural reflex that just takes some people longer to overcome. A good regulator with low breathing resistance would certainly help. Share your concerns and feelings...

Cave Filling LP versus HP tanks

There are a couple of different specs floating around on the internet. I will change the example to a different tank and research this further. The 104s have to go to hydro anyway and I can measure the internal volume and do the math from there

$50 Harbor Freight hookah system testing

I second that. Look for a diaphragm compressor. FWIW, I have two diaphragm compressors that came out of medical oxygen concentrators. They are safe for breathing. Have to check whether the volume flow is enough for hookah. Will post them in the for sale section in a few weeks if they are suitable.

Cave Filling LP versus HP tanks

Take the rated volume of the tank at service pressure, divide by service pressure, and multiply by desired pressure. I prefer to calculate for every tank a 'tank factor' that represents how many cubic feet every 100 PSI yield. That makes gas planning real easy. Tank Factor = Rated Volume /...

Cave Filling LP versus HP tanks

+1 What is the test pressure for the 3442 PSI tanks and what exception do they fall under?

Cave Filling LP versus HP tanks

300 bar is ~4350 PSI. That's a lot, even in cave country. EU test pressure would be 6525 PSI (50% over service pressure) on these tanks whereas our 3AA 2400 PSI tanks get tested to 4000 PSI (5/3 of service pressure). Assuming that both tanks were designed so that their test pressure is less...

    ScubaPro Black Jet Fins, Large

Search for 'jet fins' on North East Scuba Supplies web site. Probably cheaper than used.

Cave Filling LP versus HP tanks

Was wondering about the same. However, my PST104s (rated 2400 PSI) are actually a little bit heavier than my X8-130s (rated 3442 PSI) without manifolds and bands. Metallurgy may be different but the HP tanks are definitely not much beefier. The PST104s have a long history of being cave filled...

    Woefully inadequate HP80'S

I switched to doubles a few dives after AOW and have since become a huge fan of double tanks for Recreational+ diving. With "Recreational+" I mean anything between a tropical reef tourist bimble and technical diving. Examples are cold water diving, no-penetration wreck diving, lobstering...

    Woefully inadequate HP80'S

+1 If you have 3AA tanks with a "+" next to the born date, insist on keeping that rating. It requires additional testing equipment at the hydro facility to measure the minimum wall thickness. If they give you excuses that the "+" rating needs to have been issued at every hydro (which is BS) or...

    Finally going full cave

C'mon K, don't be a fun spoiler here. Let them struggle along the line and have to turn just past the lips for a few times. You are living proof of where sheer determination and passion can get you. (K and I took the first stab at Fundies together and when I first got cave dander on my tanks...

    Finally going full cave

Since Trace was so polite not to mention why the lost and unconscious diver drill was so memorable, I'll tell the story. We had entered the catacombs near the ear, continuing our own line, and just as we were coming out the other end, Trace signaled me to stop and blindfolded me. After he came...

Story of shipping cylinders for a week of diving

Sorry, should have said "To sink my drysuit with the AL80 doubles in cold salt water...". With manifold and bands the AL80 doubles are barely negative in fresh water when empty. Certainly not enough to sink a drysuit with thicker undergarments or a wetsuit suitable for cold water. With a V...
