    S-49 submarine Patuxent River, MD

I'm wasn't aware of S49, it was a US sub -During the Second World War, the former USS S-49 (SS-160) was reacquired by the United States Navy "as equipment" for use in experimental work at the United States Naval Mine Warfare Test Station at Solomons, Maryland...now known as the United States...

    Diving Chesapeake

Dove Calvert Clifts looking for fossils. Visibility was 2ft. Found crabs, skates (ray), and sea shells. Had to enter from a public beach, required .5mile walk with all the gear. U-1105 is near Dahlghren - on a good day visibility is 7 feet, with lots of current/tide.

How many spools is too many spools?

If you are open water diving, one and it should be 130 feet long. That way when you are at max dept for OW, you can shoot a lift bag and do an ascent. But if your are cave diving, proably 2. One primary (400 feet Plus) and one reel for jumps, searchs, etc - about 75feet. And I have heard...

Best Knot for securing reel line to brass clip?

On my little wreck reel I used a clove hitch and a yankee whip to tie it off. Works okay. But, I went to a cave diving class and learned to use a 3/4 plastic bead in the middle of a 12" loop. Basically you end up with a loop on the end of your line. The Bead facilitates tying and handling...

    Lake Anna, VA?

Mt. Storm's temperature is currently less than 48 degrees. My LDS had a dive planned, but we found out that in the winter time the locals burn firewood and don't use as much power. The power plant isn't fired up so the lake doesn't get heated. Ice was building up on the shoreline which created...

    Jamaica Suggestions

I just came back from a week at "Breezes" in Montego Bay. Currently it is winter so it rained several days. On rainy days it's tough to get any water activity going. Visibilty seems to disappear to less than 10 feet and the water sports pretty much close shop to wait for better visibility...

    LDS Problem...

If they could put a hose on wrong, what else might they miss. Too many shims? To "rich" a setting. The shop is suppose to keep a logbook on who fixed what. They should make it right gratis, then, if available, I'd consider a different shop. I didn't check my reg the last time it was...

Dive Charters on the Outer Banks of NC

I'm going out with Outerbanks - Hatteras Village - on 13-14 April. I sent them emails asking about water temp. and more and they answered within 24 hours. I know farther south Olympus is also diving. I think you'll find the Outerbanks is a smaller operation and it takes about 24 hours to get...

Masks - clear versus dark skirts

As I get older, more light, is more gooder. I use clear skirts and in low vis environment (less than 10') I like clear the best.

If diving was an Olympic Event

I think there should be water entry with compulsory skills and style. Giant stride, back roll, etc. Sign me up, but no French judges except for Mr. Costeau ;-).

BSA Central FLorida Council SCUBA Venture Crew 7...

I've been a scoutmaster for a few years now and I appreciate the need to have parents/guardians involved. With the two adult policy and the need to have organizers, I can always use the parents help. So, how do I get there attention. 1. Meet the cars as they pull up to drop of their kids...

    Experienced Divers reaction to Newbies

My biggest problem as a new diver is to say "No Dive" or "End Dive" (thumbs up). I really want to be in the water. When I'm in the water I want to stay there. When my buddy gives me thumbs up, or says he needs to go pay homage to the great god BUICK, my heart falls. My mind says what a...
