It’s a great “little” reef isn’t it
Surprised about no Nudis - some of the hydroids down there almost guarantee then normally.
Looking forward to when it cools down - going to be interesting what we will find.
A couple of dives on Friday.
First a 100 minute dive at Family Beach - hoping to find the algae slugs - but nothing this week.
We then went to Extreme Divers and dived the new reef at 21m - probably my favourite site at the moment - lots of interesting stuff and I can only see it getting better...
I’m finding quite a few Nudis about at the moment, also 2 weeks ago Car Cem must have had 15+ seahorses. Tozeuma (sawblade shrimps) have also been photographed on two East Coast sites now.
Also started a few beach dives last weekend - pleased to announce that Lobiger sp. and Oxynoe sp. hav been...
Did a bit of shore diving in Fujairah on Saturday. Not too much about on the critter front, but quality made up for the lack of quantity.
Mimic Octopus, Costasiella slug and a nice little Sandbird Octopus in a soda can
Well all the talk this weekend was of the small pod of Orca spotted in Musandam near Dibba.
Vids are on Facebook from various people.
Meanwhile I dived in Abu Dhabi at a toasty 27C. Hundreds of Nudibranch in a 100m strip, and a special little seahorse of undetermined species
Gordon,
Just to let you know we have a confirmed sighting of a Mimic Octopus on the East coast. As well as lots of Melibe and few other interesting finds. All in 7m of water :)
Gordon,
What is the algal growth like on that site - in particular was there any Arvainvillea algae? Its the paddle shaped stuff that the Costasiella slugs like so much. I'm starting to look for the sap suckers at this time of year so looking for sites with good algal and sea grass beds. Let me...
I've done it in the dark completely oblivious to the dangers, never again.
Its bad enough during the day to be honest, last time the boat meant to take us back to Batangas had developed a technical issue (a hole in the bow) and we were close to missing our flight due to the delay.
BTW on the...
I spent two months in the Seychelles in 2012 diving 2 to 3 times a day. Its ok, certainly doesn't compare to Asia or even East Coast of Africa. I was based mainly on Mahe and our reef in Bay Ternai is probably one of the best on the main island. Bleaching did have a big effect but the reefs are...
Gordon,
We are diving with Barracuda this weekend...Inch 10 and then a new dive site consisting of about 250 concrete blocks that have been down for over 10 years. Should prove to be interesting and initial accounts describe it as a Nudi paradise......we will see.
Hi Gordon,
It was my understanding that denisoni was considered a synonym of Krusensternii as per the Valdes & Fahey paper (2006). Worms now lists it as Krusensternii rather than denisoni
So the last few weeks have been a mix of some dives at work in Abu Dhabi - 2 metres depth but lots to photograph, all of which are new (undescribed) species.
Then last weekend was on the East Coast which included some monster size D. krusensternii
And a few other interesting ones...
