An odd couple, octopus and grouper.

A couple years ago when I was snorkeling in the island of Koh Kood I noticed a curious thing, I found an octopus and a longfin grouper sticking together at all times. Has anyone seen behaviour like this? I filmed them around the reef and no matter what the grouper would always stay close to...

3D scanned coral, some type of Pavona?

I made a few test 3d scanning corals in situ, off the coast of small island in the Gulf of Thailand, I just uploaded one of the 3D scans and I was a little stumped when I tried to name it, I think it's a member of the Pavona genus; any ideas? I'll see if I can embed the 3D scan here, if not...

Is there anywhere I could buy a replacement port for an Inon S-2000 strobe?

Last weekend I flooded my Inon S-2000, forgot the O-Ring... whoooops... Even though water got to the electronics I successfully cleaned it up and it's working normally; however I noticed that there is a crack in the clear port, at the top where it projects a little. I don't know if that was...

Renting gear and shore diving in Koh Tao

My girlfriend feels she needs a bit of practice before we go to the Philippines in a couple months so we thought of going to Koh Tao for a few days to do some diving. At first we thought of doing the usual thing and doing a 3 dive day tour but it occurred to me that it may be more convenient for...

    TDEX this week.

Just a heads up, the TDEX dive expo will be at Queen Sirikit Convention Center in Bangkok until, I think, this Sunday. Less stands than during previous years from what I've seen, but some interesting things to check out.

    Komodo, from a different perspective.

A couple weeks ago I went on a liveaboard around Komodo island. Of course the diving was amazing, and I will be posting photos and videos of that later; but I also took two R/C aircraft with me for doing aerial photography, a tricopter and a twin motor airplane. I still have a lot of videos to...

    GoPro Dive Housing in Bangkok?

Today I went to buy the GoPro Dive Housing (the one with a flat port) at a nearby shop (Central Rama 9) were I had seen it a couple weeks ago, but they were out of stock. I went to MBK, same story, walk over to Panthip... nope, nothing. Any ideas were could I find one? I'm leaving to Komodo in...

Video from my last Similan liveaboard

Last February I went to the Similans on the Peter Pan liveaboard. One thing I wanted to try was to use my new GoPro Hero2 to record the dives, mounted on my forehead... yes, yes, very dorky indeed! I have to say I'm not very enthusiastic about the results, the GoPro, even this new model...

The Similans from a different perspective...

A little off topic, but I thought you may like to see this. Koh Smilian aerial video: http://vimeo.com/36937828 Oh, I see I can only add one video per post...

Any operators in Phan Nga that work with disabled people?

I have a friend that is planning to go to Phan Nga (Khao Lak) in a few weeks, his girlfriend suffered a motorbike accident at Koh Phangan a couple years ago just a few days before they were planning to go on a liveaboard trip to the Similans. She's paraplegic, has to use a wheelchair, so they...

    Diving at Menjangan, Bali?

I'm leaving for Bali in a couple days, I'll be travelling from there to Surabaya stopping at many places along the way. A guy I know told me that in Bali I simply must go to Menjangan for diving, I'm planning on staying in Lobina for a couple days so I think it's fairly close. I have been...

    All hail the Anemone King!

I took this picture in Koh Tao last August, using a Canon G11 and stock Canon housing. I like the attitude of the fish. I'm in the process of getting an external strobe so I can get rid of the backscatter on my photos.

Housing on storage, keep the O-ring on or remove it?

I have a WP-DC34 housing for my Canon G11 and I was wondering if in between uses (three or four dive trips a year at most) should I keep it closed with the O-ring in place or should I remove it and keep it in a plastic bag or some other container?

    Sea & Sea YS-27DX questions

I'm thinking of buying a S&S YS-27DX strobe to go together with my Canon G11 camera, I'm tired of having so much "snow" on my photos from using the camera flash. :D I haven't used an external UW strobe yet so I'd better start to get a grip on the matter before I start spending money on it...
