Need some feedback about diving and my wetsuit choices for overseas travel (Truk etc)

I did Truk with just a bikini or tshirt , even on penetration dives like Nippo and Shinkoku Marus.Used pantyhose for leg protection and t shirt or long sleeved shirt for top - no problems whatsoever. I've never been to the GBR though so can't advise there.

Best shore dives for Maui and Kona???

Update - we're here now, and just tried Ulua beach Sunday morning. Got our tanks and weights at Maui Dreams in Kihei - really friendly people, in and out in 20 minutes. We got to Ulua beach, and dropped off the gear near the showers. Parking was no problem. The visibility was pretty murky the...

Outrageous fees for scuba gear on Hawaiian airlines?

We're making the final preps for our trip (yay!) , so while we were checking in, we noticed that Hawaiian air charges 100.00 PER ITEM - that includes, mask, fins, snorkel, reg, etc... So if we put them in checked luggage, it'll cost more than 800.00!!!! Yikes!!! Is it better to just rent...

Best shore dives for Maui and Kona???

Thanks for all the info. I was looking at the map for 5 graves/caves and it looks like its really close to Makena - in fact they look like the same site just different entries. Maybe we'll try both?! we'll definitely ask about 2 steps in Kona too...

Best shore dives for Maui and Kona???

I just found the site shorediving.com from another thread and it has oodles of info , and Ulua and Makena sound like really easy dives - we don't want jagged entries, beach entries suit us well. I just hope the fish life is ok - I've heard alot of fish are leaving via the aquarium trade. Hows...

Octopus Reef / Rene still around on Maui?

We'll be there in August and were wondering if she's still guiding dives. We went with her way back in 2006 and she was so knowledgeable about the local reefs, but I haven't seen any mention of Octopus Reef lately.

    Female divers - BCD recommendations

I bought a Zeagle Lazer a year ago and absolutely LOVE IT! From your physical description your body type is similar to mine - maybe my profile picture would give you a better idea and you can go from there. But I really like several things - first, as Divemaven mentioned, the bc is made...

@ambassador divers and cgills, Thanks for that info:thumbs_up: We are planning on going some time in the summer , between June and early August, hopefully before any bad weather hits. I think we'll stick with either CC or the Coconut Bay condos. I was able to contact D Heard at Sting Ray...

Any good house reefs in GC/LGC/ ??

@diversteve first, thanks for your really thoughtful replies, you read very carefully and know exactly what I was looking for. But I'm having a little trouble getting a hold of the rental agency that controls the reservations there. I've tried emailing them and have only had my email bounced...

70's/80's vintage SCubaPro mk5 first 109 sscond - worth keeping?

My friend still has the reg but she promised she'd give it back soon, so sorry for the delay on the pics. I do have some pics of the US Divers reg though - it looks like the second was made in 77 and the first in 74, if I'm reading the serial numbers correctly. Also, its actually a Calypso iv ...

70's/80's vintage SCubaPro mk5 first 109 sscond - worth keeping?

hi everybody, I went to my lds and got a 3/8 to 7/16 adapter for the lp port and put my current spg/depth gauge on and it worked perfectly! Yay! The parts guy there first gave me a weird look like, why would I do that, but then I showed him the reg and he started telling me all these stories...

70's/80's vintage SCubaPro mk5 first 109 sscond - worth keeping?

I'll post a pic soon. A friend in our dive club wanted to check it out - she had never seen a vintage SP reg with the metal 2nd stage before - she thought they only made them from hard plastic. In the meantime , are there any good reference books / web sites I could visit to learn more about...

Any good house reefs in GC/LGC/ ??

It looks like either Cobalt coast or condos on the west end look like what we want. Does CC have any condo type units where you have the option of staying in to eat? I guess we're so spoiled by Buddy dive and CCV - actually at CCV we stayed at a beach house - BH12, so we ate most of our meals...

70's/80's vintage SCubaPro mk5 first 109 sscond - worth keeping?

wow, that got some quick replies! In a way I was kind of joking- I've heard these regs are still used by alot of dive shops. The one I have looks like its never been used - the chrome doesn't have a singe scratch. So getting back to the squeaking - I haven't taken it apart yet so it might need a...
