Second diver in a week dies at Breakwater in Monterey

There is a video now at the OP's link to KSBW. They interview some local divers and a firefighter who dives. They also name the diver lost last week.

Missing Diver in Monterey - Breakwater

I just saw this on the news as the search is being called off. Missing since Sunday afternoon (6-17-2013). Family notified authorities, so either no buddy or they are not aware of one. KSBW News KION News

    Personal locating devices.

Fast Find 210 PLB inside of a Custom Divers dive canister. There is also a pouch for attaching it to your equipment. I also like the Nautilus Lifeline mentioned above. They are for similar purposes but with completely different methods of execution. The PLB sends a signal to a satellite from...

    Nautilus Lifeline

My post was Feb 10th, 2011 - not the day before yesterday. I know it's shipping now. I will probably get one sometime but for now I am concentrating on my last semester in college and funds are tight.

    Article: The AquaCat Liveaboard

I loved my trip on the Aqua Cat. The only negative of the entire trip was that I was on her during 9/11. The crew handled it very well, kept us informed with what little information was available at the time. We voted to stay on the vacation, not that ending it soon would have done any good...

    Thank You, Veterans

And I would like to thank you diveprof for serving our Veterans, including myself. My life was saved by the caring medical personnel of the VA Hospital in Palo Alto. Ca and the VA Clinic of Monterey, CA. Not from war wounds, but from cancer, that no other hospital would treat me for without a...

Anyone see Mola Mola's in Monterey?

If you miss them on the dive, they have them at the Monterey Bay Aquarium along with a new Great White - a 4.5 footer.

    pony bottle-open or closed?

What size is that pony? I was wondering where the scooter would be stored during a dive.:dropmouth:

    pony bottle-open or closed?

I also have another question since I'm pretty interested in the subject, could anyone post pics of their setups? I would like to see both back mount and sling. Also more info on how to sling it would be great. Also, does anyone use both a back mount system and an argon/DS inflation system that...

i tried to fly out today and i ended up being bent

Was this a multilevel dive? If 100ft for 40 minutes - well we know that's an issue. Surface interval seems very short for a second 100' dive - or any depth really after doing a 100' dive. Also, any safety stops?

    What tools do you carry?

Which Pelican case and also what do you do with the golf tees and foam ear plugs? Also, what is a snap-light? Are they those little clip on LED lights? It does seem like he wanted to know what you take on the dive, not what you leave in the boat or car. I carry a dive knife on my waist, a...

    Monterey diving

Also, if you need a DS, bring a cert with you. I'm not sure about the other shops, but Aquarius is not going to rent one without it. I'm not sure they will rent it at all as I think they just keep some on hand for classes. At least that is what the owner told both me and my roommate on two...

    pony bottle-open or closed?

I've never carried a pony but several posters have indicated that they would use the pony or hand it (if slung?) to an OOA buddy. When you carry a pony do you ditch your octopus? I would think that a pony is your last resort and if a buddy is OOA, then you give him your primary and use your...

A horrific finding but thank goodness they were caught

I really have to disagree with that statement. Yes they were trying to make a living, but so is a bank robber or burglar. What those have in common is that they are trying to get a bigger score for less effort. They could be legal fishermen and make less. I also don't feel sorry for the pirates...

    Large conch shells?

Yep just guidelines, and if there is a fine you can pay with Monopoly money. Any jail time, just use your get out of jail free card.

    Horrible Customer Service Experience

I think a repair on a trip is one consideration, but I would rather have the bladder replaced. Once upon a time, we all had bladders in the BC's and repairs were done by the owners but shops replaced them. It would really suck to be at 100' sitting on a beautiful wall with a stream of bubbles...

    Horrible Customer Service Experience

Wow, you just can't pay for this kind of notoriety about a product and the manufacturers service. The only question really, was it good or bad notoriety? I was kind of neutral about DSS, though I like that it is USA made. On the other hand when I walked into my LDS with a leaking SP BC, I walked...

Looking for Liveaboard Holiday Ideas - Not Caribbean - Feb/March, 2012

Hawaii on the Kona Aggressor is a lot of fun and great diving. I did it for two weeks plus so shore diving before we boarded. There are tons of Live-aboards in the South Pacific, Fiji, Palau, Maldives and of course Australia and the Great Barrier Reef. I highly recommend the Aggressor Fleet...

OMS BCA-298 Canister for FF210 PLB or similar canister

Yea, I tried to order some yesterday and they sent me an email and cancelled it. That was where I picked mine up last year and thought they would update the closeout area once out of stock.
