    Frustrated trying to get parts...

Right now I'm looking for a couple maintenance kits for ScubaPro MK25AFs. They're my primary sets on my doubles rig. The rest of my regs are Aqualung and getting parts for those is easier (but definitely not easy). I realize that o-rings are easy to get. I buy all my tank/valve orings from...

    Frustrated trying to get parts...

How has this come back to bite me in the ass? I'm simply requesting an honest modern industry discussion?

    Frustrated trying to get parts...

awap, I agree 100%. I was careful with my wording to which you claim to be BS. Annual service is usually a dunk in the tank to check for leaks (every two years parts like HP seats etc are changed). I have personally come across many "equipment techs" in the industry that were certified by one...

    Frustrated trying to get parts...

I worked for years teaching diving and working full time in multiple dive shops. I have always been able to service my equipment without issues (and lots of other peoples of course). No matter which brand reg. set I had, I could get parts and access to a bench to complete yearly servicing...

    Advise on Aqualung equipment

The Vytec and the Vyper are both nice computers. The advantage of the Vytec over the Vyper is that it can handle (and switch) up to three nitrox blends. This could come in handy if you decide to go tech. in a few years. The Maverick and the Wave are both popular low-end BCDs. We use them in...

    scuba wet suit

If you're buying at the local scuba shop, they will be able to help you out with fitting. It should fit snug, and they are usually quite difficult to put on. The tighter it is, the warmer you'll be.... just not so tight that your limbs go numb and your face goes blue :P

    Summer Internships

The University where I study, the University of Victoria, British Columbia, has a program you might be interested in. There is a diving research team that studies the Cloud Sponges off Senanus Island in the Sannich Inlet. Many of the sponges are tagged for research by this team, and I believe...

    Start Class Jan 11

Welcome to the board Matthew, I'd personally recommend that you use the shops scuba gear for your Open Water course. You will likely have to purchase your own mask, snorkel, and fins for the course though. There are a few reasons why I'd wait till after your Open Water course before you buy a...

    DIY Wrist Slates

Greetings, If anybody is interested in building a set of wrist slates, I came up with a great way of doing it. A chunk of vinal siding goes a LONG ways. If you do the cuts right, you will end up with a niffty pencil holder on the bottom slate. Check out my webpage for pictures and horrible...

    Any Canucks?

Hi VanGirl, I'm an instructor in Victoria, so I can answer any questions you might have. The dive shop whom I work for, Great Ocean Adventures, does a free Sunday morning dive every sunday at 10am. You show up, and can rent any gear you might need, then one of the stores Dive Masters takes...

    Bloody nose?

Mandy, Make sure you're not exceeding your 1 foot per second ascent rate. Fast changes in ambient pressure will stress your sinuses and could cause some bleeding.

    Any Canucks?

TTT, If you want to do some diving on Vancouver Island, let me know. I'm an instructor and teach in Victoria and in Nanaimo; I live in Vic. I'm always up for fun dives though (even after teaching all day). Have you seen the wrecks in Nanaimo yet?

Is Padi advanced worth taking ?

MikeFerrara, I've noticed a disatisfaction with PADI on your part in many of your posts since I started hanging around the board. First of all, I would like to remind you that you are a PADI Instructor! PADI is what us instructors make it be. If you have a problem with the way a course is...

    My ideal course...

A couple thoughts... 1. Most people are interested in learning by diving, not learning in a classroom. They will eventually "perfect" their buoyancy and other things you mentioned with months (or years) of diving. That's why all of the agencies courses are the way they are. 2. The only...

Is Padi advanced worth taking ?

Ready for a biased opinion? (I'm an instructor!) Okay, I'm kidding. In all honesty, my advanced course was a waste of money. The advanced course all depends on who your instructor is, and whether he is looking to make money, or looking to make safe divers. If you get a good instructor, the...
