The continuing sagas of the Blue Heron Bridge

I think everyone's bailed, anyway, due to forecasted t-storms around 4pm. Dangit. We head home to NE Florida tomorrow; we'll have to catch it another time.

The continuing sagas of the Blue Heron Bridge

At the Gold Coast Scuba Holiday Dive & BBQ in LBTS now, tho the waves are rockin' & the rip current is fierce. A few folks are thinking of dropping at BHB around 5pm today... will we see anyone else then?

    car keys + shore diving

Thanks for this thread. It's a comfort to know that I'm not the only one who's lost the car key while diving. Much wailing & teeth-gnashing ensued while we waited for a locksmith & anticipated the hundreds of dollars we'd spend to break in to our own car. Props to AAA for covering a big chunk of...

    Jacksonville

Also born, raised & educated in Jax. My public school experience at Stanton College Prep & University of North FL was good, though 2 decades ago. And I have to speak up for Riverside & Avondale, nice neighborhoods that happen to be on the westside of the river. My only complaint about Jax is...

Puffer fish bites off diver's finger

I have a Green Spotted Puffer in a brackish-water tank at home. My sweetheart Jim refers to him as a gremlin... remember the bad horror/comedy movie from the 80s? The creatures look adorable and then, under certain conditions, they become viscious. Our GSP is less than 2 inches long...

    Green Spotted Puffer, Aug 2010

Here's my beloved Green Spotted Puffer in August 2010. He's staring me down, wanting food. And he wants me to warn everyone not to molest his fellow puffers, in the wild or in the aquarium. They do bite if provoked.

Florida State Parks that allow Diving (List)

As of now, the official FL State Park website makes it sound as though the Annual Pass DOESN'T waive other fees like diving fees... here's a quote from the site: "Annual Entrance Passes allow park entrance in lieu of the daily entrance fee... Does not waive other special use fees charged at...

Lauderdale by the Sea shore dives

Hey, LBTS divers! How's the viz and water temps lately? Jim & I had fun diving LBTS in October, and may be in the area mid-Dec. We hope to join in with Gold Coast Scuba's holiday dive & BBQ. Anyone else attending?

Lauderdale by the Sea shore dives

Again, our paths cross simultaneously! I was just editing my post to question my "Fairy Basslet" sighting... yes, those may be what I saw instead. Great catch. And, yes, I got a smaller replacement key, and a magnetic hide-a-key to stash it with the car. Good suggestion. :)

Lauderdale by the Sea shore dives

Hey, Scuba_Jenny. Sounds like our paths may have literally crossed at LBTS that day! It also sounds like you have a good key-stashing system, yourself. I was limited in options for storing my VW key, 'cause it was one of those bulky combined key/remote/switchblade-looking things. I'm...

Lauderdale by the Sea shore dives

In researching SoFL diving, I found a thread here that pointed me to the Gold Coast Scuba Meetup group. My sweetie Jim & I drove down from Jacksonville on Fri, 10/15, for an unrelated event later in the weekend. We had Saturday free, so we joined in on Gold Coast Scuba's free Shore Dive clinic...

    Diving Cedar Key, FL?

Anyone dive Cedar Key? I've seen a single dive shop (closed when I was last there) that provides fills and equipment for sale, but doesn't look like they have rentals or a dive charter service. A Google search produces only one captain/boat combo that specifically mentions diving Cedar...
