Valve drill issues with drysuit undies

+2 to that It needs to be really really inflated, and a really vigorous upper body stretch/wiggle to gain as much 'freedom' as possible Good luck. PS I use 4th Element Arctic 2 piece and need to 'do the wiggle' even with that

    Yet another question about lights.

Be really careful with the rotating ring. You need to rinse the hell out of it after the dive, so no salt remains under it which can rust the magnet. With thorough rinsing each time (rotating the ring in fresh water), you should be fine

    Drysuits and pee valves

The advice from a very helpful Diving Doc was to make sure the tubing was properly dried by flushing with methylated spirits. His full text is below, for info : The bacteria involved is usually pseudomonas which loves to grow in moist warm places like a P valve tubing (and ears on tropical dive...

    Removing the condom cath

I use the Rochester Widebands. No problems removing them : Stand in the shower, fold the outlet closed. Have a small urination, and work that around - it releases the cath from the skin very easily.

Need recommendation for side-mount cave course in Puerto Aventuras area

I have dived with Under the Jungle twice (4 years apart), and highly recommend them. Everyone recommends Nat (and rightly so), but don't think "I must get Nat". We did a week with Nat and a week with Vince, and both were excellent. On my return trip I dived with Vince nearly the whole time (my...

    Diving in Perth and Cairns

I'd be a bit wary of suggesting Ningaloo/Exmouth is "near" Perth :)

Great video. Best of luck for the next dive

    First liveaboard advice

Of course you do what you have to do in a circumstance like that, but an ENT Specialist really warned me off any ear coverings any time on a dive trip (earplugs, music ear phones, even over the ear noise cancelling headphones). Ideally you want the ears open and able to dry to reduce the...

    First liveaboard advice

I've never heard of it (had to google it). I would think a nice padded bandaid (removed after each dive) would be better protection than a "skin"/film. Sometimes I had to hold them in place with some fabric tape. Removing it after each dive gave the spot some chance to breathe. I found...

    First liveaboard advice

Bandaids / medical tape for any blisters that pop up on your feet. Ideally take two different style of boots to mix things up a bit

Travelling diver who hires equipment and hate weight belts...solution?

Consider these. Dripstone Diving They allow you to firmly attach a belt weight to any 2 inch harness without sliding the harness through the weight Non ditchable. They were robust and strong and worked for me when i had to borrow some. No sliding whatsoever

    Deco hand signal?

It depends on your question I guess. For me the pinky means deco. Pinky followed by a number means x minutes of deco. This would include minor / unintended deco due to staying at depth too long on a recreational dive. The Hawaiian Hang Loose signal means gas switch (to me). This would usually...

    Environmental conditions effects on narcosis

Regardless of how impaired I actually was, I felt less narced in bright warm water compared to cold dark water at a similar depth. When I went deeper in warm bright water it was a happy narc, and in cold dark water definitely only ever a dark narc (perceptual narrowing etc)

What is respectably professional gear for a new DM?

I've seen several dive leaders wear two different coloured fins. It makes them very easy to identify underwater in a group of strangers

Diving and Snorkelling Tipps Cairns - Darwin - Exmouth - Perth

I've done both. Minke Whales win, by far. The whale shark is an experience to watch a swimming 'dinosaur'. The Minke whale comes to look at YOU ! It is life changing to look into its eye and see it is looking back at you. I would not just focus on them, though. The normal diving around...

    DSMB & Reel Storage - BP/W

I'm not a fan of crotch d-ring connections. My suggestion would be tech shorts (what I use) or a pouch mounted to the backplate (what I used to use). This is an example Highland by XS Scuba Mesh Carry Pouch

    pneumaturia (air in urine)

Did you "prime" the p-valve before diving ? (ie was the hose full). Connect cath to p-valve and then do a small urination, with the valve open to fill the hose, before diving. On the two occasions I connected the cath to a dry, empty, hose I experienced air in urine. No ill effects, but an...

Spool for ~100' Dive? (looking on DGX Website)

The Dive Rite POM Acetal Plastic Finger Spools. Large 120' line now also has a tiny tiny centre hole. Dive Rite changed specs. Go for the light monkey spool. Piranha also sells large centre hole spools
