Driving over the summit on Hwy 17 after diving

Well, I just did a dive to 200ft for 20 minutes with 55 minutes of deco yesterday then drove home via that very highway (I forgot about the 1800ft change in elevation) and well, I'm still here. :D Disclaimer: Your results may differ.

    RMV/gas consumption.

For what it's worth a lot (but not all) computers factor temperature into the equation. Look through the manual, if it does then its probably some sort of apprehension. If it doesn't mention some sort of temperature compensation then it probably doesn't factor that in.

End of June on the North Coast

There are quite a few of us from North Coast Divers (http://thenorthcoastdivers.org) that lurk on here but that is where most of us post and organize events. Conditions are usually better in the summer but visibility tends to be less (than winter) so it can be hit or miss but there is great...

Is Dive Right's remote exhaust dump valve (elbow) safe?

Well, it's not DIR (just FYI) but I had one for years and never had a problem although I always cleaned it thoroughly. I took it off last year and replaced it with an elbow because I took it apart and found the silicone in pretty rough shape and realized I didn't need it so it probably wasn't...

Disconnect drysuit hose when not diving dry?

"Darn it, where is that f-ing button?! Oh right I'm wet." - Words never said ;) But screamed into the regulator many many times! I doubt the OP cares since this thread 9 years old but if I remember to I take the hose off. Not a big deal if you have a wrench and a plug on hand. Otherwise I...

    Another question about no-fly times

Woah woah, I'll offer up an airline pilot perspective although I'm not sure what live 2 dive's background is other than the AF. Yes, we can manually adjust the cabin pressure but it increases our workload considerably (read: pain in the a**) and if we get distracted with something else...

DUI silicone wrist seals do not lock in properly

I tried a pair of the silicone seals at a DUI demo day and loved them but I had issues putting them in as well, tried using spit and soapy water and still couldn't get them to fit. I then noticed that some of the molding was still clogging the zip so I removed it and they fit just fine. A few...

finally the drive suit i like

Yeah, I'm not sure what Steve Gamble uses but I tried some wrist seals that he put on some DUI zipseals and they worked a lot better. They seemed thinner and softer. I have not replaced my DUI ones (after 2.5 years) simply because they have not ripped or torn but I had to trim them back a...

finally the drive suit i like

Most of this DUI does in some way, although I like how "Why wouldn't DUI do the same to begin with," is almost becoming an idiom rather than a real question. Let's see (slightly tongue in cheek) 1) What about Rockboots ($260)? I wonder why I see so many Converse Chuck Taylor's instead ($60)...

    Oahu Next Week?

Anyone want to meet up for some dives next week? My plan is to head out to Oahu from San Francisco either tomorrow or Friday and I'll be there (Kailua) until Friday or Saturday of next week (Oct. 12/13th). Sadly no one in my group dives anymore so I would love to do some dives. I'll definitely...

Bad course recovered after complaint to LDS

Yes, they do. Their Monterey store has a bunch of pictures of the mythbusters. Their SF shop is not that far from them either. I've also seen Bamboo Reef VIP stickers on their tanks in some episodes.

Bad course recovered after complaint to LDS

They have been around for a while and they have a good reputation. A few comments for information, Bamboo Reef is SSI, meaning that unlike PADI an instructor or DiveCon HAS to be affiliated with a dive shop to be considered "active." So if an instructor is not playing nice they lose their...

    Roll, Roll, Roll your tank

Huh, then I guess all those chemistry classes in highschool and college must have been wrong then. :) If I may: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Combined+Gas+Law and even more revelent: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=graham's+law+of+diffusion

    Roll, Roll, Roll your tank

I would be willing to bet the more likely reason the mix changed was because of the cylinder cooling than the tumbling. Actual gas diffusion within a mixture is very quick. The analyzer actually measures the partial pressure of O2, not the percentage. As such it is affected by numerous other...

HOG Service Kit price bump, more than 50% more expensive

Ooops, you might want to take a look at the page for the first stage service kit. You still can't select which kit. By default it has both selected.

    Air Fill Protocol

Seriously! I no longer live in Florida but when I did, I stopped going to them for fills when they filled our tanks fast and hot enough to blow two burst disks on a buddy's tanks. My disks did not burst but they were so hot to the touch I had to wait for them to cool down before I could carry...

You never know where your skills will come in handy . . .

Was this at Cove 2? If so it definitely needed to be done. Thanks! Last time I was there I tried using the map for reference but it seemed some of the references were a little out of position. On that note, my cave training has definitely defined the way I dive and how I approach potential...
