    Djibouti Dolphin and whale shark

There's an Italian submarine WWII era at 40m and at least one other wreck that I know of. Personally given the issues around Bab Al Mandeb at the moment I'd hang off diving there for now.

    Diving "Conservative" vs Nitrox

I use Nitrox most of the time locally as I wish to have a decent NDL when most of my dives are square profile and in the 20-30m range. If the dive is 15m or less then I have no problem with air. A nitrox fill for me locally is AED21.66 (USD5.91) and air is AED8.75 (USD2.39) from a reliable...

    UAE East Coast Temperatures

Three tank dive with BDC yesterday, and from our Fujairah Divers WhatsApp group there were six of us on BDC with six other divers. It's Ramadan, and the only fasting person was the boat captain LaBlue. Temperatures stayed at 23C on all dives from surface to bottom. Dive 1 in Inchcape 1 had a...

    Tioman dive centre recommendation

Good plan but traveling via land to these places is a bit of a PITA. Personally I still have to visit Tioman, criminal about these illegal salvagers as both these wrecks have been on my bucket list for years. I almost made it pre-Covid. Tioman does look like a decent place to chill though for...

    Diving the Thistlegorm no liveaboard

My only experience on the Thistlegorm was on an overcrowded day boat from Sharm while I was staying at Dahab, in July 2021 whilst still under Covid rules. I think I posted about it back then, but I wouldn't repeat this as it was rather disorganised to say the least, e.g. nitrox offered and no...

Question Do you prefer someone help you set up your gear, or do you prefer setting up by yourself?

Setting up your own gear and taking it apart and cleaning yourself is that only way to know your own gear and identify if anything is requiring additional maintenance etc. I have noticed that some places only give a rudimentary post dive dunk and don't pay attention to certain places like the...

    Musandam 2024

My main buddy for my past trips to Indonesia since 2022 @outofofficebrb (OOO) decided last year to come to visit me in the UAE and I managed to get a cancelation on one of the dhow trips to Musandam in mid February with Sheesa Dhows Unlike other land border crossings to Oman from UAE, no visa...

    UAE West Coast Temperatures

Water temps off the west coast in the Persian Gulf have dropped significantly with some of my friends reporting 19/20C Fortunately when my buddy @outofofficebrb came to visit it was only 22C when we tested out her nice new BPW. We did a shore dive at The Bridge and managed 71 mins before we...

    UAE East Coast Temperatures

It's been cold recently, rain and wind have prevented boats going out due to Coast Guard warnings etc., but I managed to squeeze in a few dives when @outofofficebrb came over for a visit and even managed to get a cancellation on a Dhow to Musandam, this will be a separate post. Plenty of nudis...

    Sri Lanka in July

The only place I've dived was HMS Hermes, which was amazing but it is a technical dive being 50m. Five of my friends dived in Sri Lanka last year in three different groups and the feedback was "loads of nudis" Trincomalee was not overwhelming according to three of them who regularly dive with...

    DGX SoftPack vs BP&W

Go for a BPW I used the DiveRite TravelPac many years ago for travel, but you end up wearing lead. I have been traveling with a BPW since 2015 and it's a lot easier when I'm diving.
