    St. Helena Trip Report

Is St. Helena ("Hel-een-ah") in Africa? Um, I don't thinks so, but that's how you get there. Flights leave once each week from Johannesburg, South Africa, bounce through Namibia for a refueling stop, and arrive on a Saturday afternoon. The island is beautiful, only lightly touristed, extremely...

Feature Request: Set Peregrine Altitude to Adjust NDLs for Post-Dive Travel

I see the altitude setting on my Peregrine is permanently set to Auto. On several occasions I've needed to drive over a pass or go to a higher altitude after a dive. Were I using tables, I would simply plan the dives as if I was already at the altitude. Similarly, I would like the ability to...

Norway Diving: Lofoten Islands and Saltstraumen Trip Report

TLDR: I went to Norway for two weeks in August, sightseeing and scuba diving. I dove at Ballstad in the Lofoten Islands, and at Saltstraumen, both places above the Arctic Circle. It was terrific! Photos are at the end of this post. :p Part 1. The Diving Trip Overview I dive a lot in the US...

    Looking for Port Townsend Divers

¡Hola amigos! I'm helping organize a few diving events in Port Townsend this summer, and I'm putting together a list of local divers -- or ones that don't mind driving here -- for an email list of possible participants. No obligation, of course. If you want to be on the distribution list...

Diving and Hiking in Lofoten Islands and Bodø

Hi All, I'm looking for some adventurous, out-of-the way diving, especially the Arctic, Greenland, or perhaps Norway. (Iceland was fun!) Norway sounds great because it has a lot to see, maybe good diving, and some great hiking. I'm especially interested in the Lofoten Islands, and maybe Bodø...

    Peregrine Not Showing Logged Dives

Hey hi. Just completed a dive earlier today and went to check the log on my Peregrine, but the only logged dive showing was the factory dive. I'm not entirely sure, but N2 loading appears to have been cleared too. Battery's got a good charge. It knows I was diving because it's timing the...

    What Dive Areas are Disappearing?

Hi All, This past year of lock-downs and travel restrictions has reinvigorated my plans to dive places on my bucket list. But many incredible dive sites are disappearing or already gone... Some sites I want to dive -- or have already seen -- are seriously degraded due to climate change...

Can XTX50 be easily inspected and cleaned in the field?

I'm looking at getting a new second stage, and I'd like one that I can easily open and inspect, and clean if necessary, and reassemble without tools or fuss. Does the XTX50 allow this? (I'm not talking about pulling out the barrel and rebuilding the reg, just removing the purge valve cover and...

    Full Bottle of ... ?

We hunt for old bottles and occasionally find one with the stopper still in it. Most of them have been from the 1890's through 1920's. Almost always, the liquid inside is some vile mix of sea water and rot. This time... something different! Recently I found a full bottle of ...uh... whiskey...

    Finding a Firearm

Recently, on another board, I posed the question "What should you do?" when you find a gun while diving. It turns out a few people had indeed found guns and had to make that decision. My question was prompted because we've been finding lots of WWI-era 30-06 ammunition, some in stripper clips...

    Peregrine Safety Stop Depth

Just read through the Peregrine manual but didn't see anything about setting the depth of the safety stop. Can you set the depth? Thanks!

    Repairing a Polyurethane Drysuit

My Viking Xtreme polyurethane drysuit has held up very well but now needs everything: Neck seal, zipper, boots... I've tried several glues, including neoprene cement and Aquaseal, and nothing sticks to polyurethane! Aquaseal peels right off like a Post-It note. Apparently Viking made it using...

    Yellowstone Diving

Diving in Yellowstone is on my scuba bucket list and I'm getting serious about it. The best spots would likely require a boat and guide, but I've been unable to find any scheduled trips. I'm posting this message to say, if you know of an upcoming trip there (even years from now) please contact me.

Default Nitrox Setting for Perdix AI in OC Mode

I'm shopping around for dive computers and have a quick question that I haven't yet found in the manuals... When you turn on the Perdix AI, what is the default gas mix setting? Is it the same as the last time you used the computer, i.e., if I dove EAN 32 last week does it come up the same, or...

    Viking/Apeks Shoulder Dump

Hola Apeks reps, I need to replace the shoulder dump valve on my Viking Xtreme drysuit (the suit is no longer made but it's still sturdy). My LDS did not have a dump that fit. I think one of these Apeks valves will fit but I'm not entirely sure. Anybody know? Any other valve? Two pictures...

Front Range Diving this Weekend, 9/17-18?

I have some gear I'd like to try out, and just practice a bit. Easy diving. Chatfield, Carter Lake, or Horsetooth res would be fine. Post here or PM me. glenn

Carter Lake on Sunday Morning, 6/12?

I've got some new gear to try out and an old drysuit that I just repaired, so I'm looking to do a test dive somewhere. I have extra tanks and weights if you don't have your own. The Saddle at Carter Lake is probably the most convenient site because we can drive down to the water. I suggest...

Wireless iBubble Underwater Drone Will Revolutionize the Scuba Diving Experience

Taking 'selfies' to the next level... The iBubble drone. Wonderful name (DCS, anyone?). I volunteer to be the first person to hack one. :D
