Question: Small Trim Weights On Harness Waistband

For trim I prefer a tail weight over anything attached to the harness, that puts it out of the way and also lower on the body giving it a longer arm from center of gravity which will require less weight to trim. The long version of the tail weight pouch offered by Deep Sea Supply is my favorite...

xDeep BLACK - bottom timer / computer features. Sold beginning Friday, July 26th !

For the record, I've been diving mine and have had no depth deviations compared to my other comp. The water temp is actually in the eighties so reading correctly I guess:). Firmware 2.3.3 went in without a glitch so I sprang for the Trimix upgrade right after which went equally as well, don't...

xDeep BLACK - bottom timer / computer features. Sold beginning Friday, July 26th !

Are you connecting the usb adapter into the Black before plugging it into your laptop? I read somewhere that's the recommended method, this way all contacts of the adapter are fully seated before power is applied.

    Suggestions for diving setup

Whatever you decide it should fit well enough to be holding your tank securely, to the point that it always stays in postition with no need for adjustment, not rocking or twisting to one side. There are numerous advantages to a backplate, but I don't think another word needs to be added to this...

    Suggestions for diving setup

Petrel or xDeep computer instead, and given the fact you need one good computer now and the xDeep are on about 3-4 month waiting list, Shearwater is my vote. I also agree with a previous poster that a lot could be saved on the BC....BP and wing are easily adjusted to fit.....properly, and the...

    XDEEP Black BT Review

Just want to say that firmware updates are possible via a Mac also no problem, I had seen only reference to PC a lot of places. After dropping the new firmware file on the Black as described in the manual, make sure you not only eject the disk but also physically unplug the USB before rebooting...

xDeep BLACK - bottom timer / computer features. Sold beginning Friday, July 26th !

BEWARE! I waited 4 months for a BT before I was asked if I would like the Nitrox version because there were more of them in stock. I said sure as I intended to upgrade anyway. Well guess what? If you do that you have to pay an additional $200 for the BT function even though you already paid the...

Why the Compass on the Left Arm?

To the OP......how do you have your compass set up, with the Lubber line at a right angle to your arm or facing your hand? I suggest rigging it to face your hand if your compass allows, or it can just be ignored altogether, focus just on the rotating compass dial itself. With it this way and the...

    Sidemount or Backmount?

Well, we're at the point where part of one of my sentences is being stringed together with another, completely out of context so I'll take my exit. There is no way now or ever that side-mount will be the optimum configuration for open water from an equipment standpoint for the reasons I've...

    Sidemount or Backmount?

Nice illustration except that the box representing the backmounted doubles is way too big while all the others are amazingly the correct size!;) Make the backmounted box the correct size and what you have is half the diameter of the tank larger, which I'll buy as about correct.... Struck a...

    Recommended Courses for Introductory Tech

You've got to be kidding me!!.......what's next "Water Diver" specialty!!? I know it's the instructor that matters, but I dropped Padi after my Advanced, saw too many really dumb things going on and my experience dives for the Advanced were seriously NOT advanced, was a joke....

    Sidemount or Backmount?

It's not VooDoo, but it is different, yet a lot of people are treating it THE SAME, that's the problem I have with it. We'll see what GUE comes up with but I'd bet that the minimum gas calculation will not be the same as for doubles. There are a lot of reasons for this such as gas sharing...

    Just for laughs...

I agree with that and appreciate the tolerance, just happened on this since it was staring at me while poking around for the DIR forum, and I've learned something from it despite not agreeing with all of it. Beyond this I'll just have to give it a go sometime to have the experience of what...

    Just for laughs...

I guess to really compare both systems on their own merit the type of diving has to be defined, deep, overhead, deco, or simply "recreational". For recreational it doesn't really matter, and I agree, in that case sidemount would be a lot of redundancy and additional gas that you wouldn't have...

    Sidemount or Backmount?

I am not cave certified, but.....I believe using GUE procedures the answer to your question would lie in the calculation of minimum gas and turn pressure based on one tank instead of two that are connected. Since in sidemount they are not manifolded (I'm ignoring UTD here) then the minimum...

    Just for laughs...

No, given no failures it's fine.......but one free flowing reg and it's a different story, and to me feathering a valve to use the gas while ascending on schedule and dealing with whatever else may come up is not a viable solution. Could it be done, sure, I'm just saying it's not an optimal...

    Just for laughs...

The math, depth and tanks I see people using..... Edit: For shallower dives, sure, my statement is probably a bit strong, but go deeper and from what I've seen people are diving a liability.
