Thanks so much for this. We are heading to Cabo in a week and planning to dive Cabo Pulmo, La Paz, and Cabo San Lucas. I've been on the fence about wetsuit selection, too, so I really appreciated your comments on that.
Thanks for the review. We are thinking about going to dive in Cabo and Cabo Pulmo in August. What is the "housing tax?" Is there a tax on bringing your camera in a housing??
The trick is to write to Aqua Safari and reserve your slots before confirming your reservation with the hotel. And that sucks, right, if you aren't aware you have to reserve in advance to make sure you get a slot? But in my experience we've never had a problem getting on a boat with advance...
You do get voucher credits, but IIRC were were able to get 5 days of 2-tank morning dives for three included. You do pay tax on the the value of the dives out of pocket. Before our son was a diver, we got a total of 11 or 12 2-tank dives and had credits left over. So it's pretty "included"...
One thing about the Palace to keep in mind is that (at least the last few times we went there) diving is included. You have to like diving with Aqua Safari on their slower boats, but we like them. So when you subtract out the cost of diving for three (last time our son started diving with us)...
Beautiful, as always (I recently checked out your other videos on Youtube). I'll look for some of this stuff off the palapa at Barefoot Cay next month. ;)
I've been shooting with an S95 and Canon housing, using natural light or the camera's internal flash, for about 10 years. I just started serious hunting to upgrade and feel exactly like CheeseAndHam. I can't believe one-button white balance has been removed (and replaced with something like 10...
Everybody's cold tolerance is different, but FWIW, I just got back from a week diving in Coz in a new 5-4-3 and I felt just barely warm enough in that suit by the end of the week's diving. Sounds like the temps in mid-march won't be materially different than they were this last week.
Ripple in Still Water and Ms. Ripple and Mini-Me Ripple are coming down from 2/16 to 2/23, staying at the Palace and diving with Aqua Safari.
Re those Eagle Rays, on what sites have you folks been seeing them?
This affected us the one time we rented from Isis. We got a beat up bug that had all sorts of problems, but we got by for the 24 hours we rented it. When we returned it, though, they claimed there was a scratch that wasn't there before. We didn't put it there, and they didn't charge us much to...
I was down two weeks ago and one of the boats was allegedly out for engine service, back the next day. It is possible they keep having problems with their boats, but it would be interesting to see if, by contrast, it is a story they keep using every couple of weeks to run only two boats when...
I was down a couple of weeks ago and was able to use points for diving on Sunday (morning), so that's baloney about no dives for points on Sunday. You should complain to Palace management. They really need to hear about how (their) dive shop management is encouraging divers to stay elsewhere.
Also, did they have all three boats out? There's been some chatter about the new management trying to save money by running only two boats when they can cram everybody on the two. The day they wrongly claimed that I and at least one other person didn't have reservations, it just so happened...
Good question and I should have elaborated. The Palace gives you $1500 in resort credits for a week stay. That's enough to pay for a week of diving for Ms. Ripple and me. With diving included, the Palace makes financial sense for me, and no doubt others. If I have to pay for diving on top of...
I was down recently. The Aqua Safari divemasters are superb, as usual. The new management is not. Lost reservations, "the customer is always wrong" attitude, and divemasters saying they are unhappy and considering leaving because of management. I love the Palace and I love the AS divemasters...
If you are considering an AI, my vote is for the Palace. If you stay for a week, they give you $1500 in resort credits per room. You can use that to dive with Aqua Safari, at $79 per two tank dive. We did that last year (and are doing it again in a week and a half). I found them to be an...
I just want to recognize Blue Planet here for good, friendly service, in unfortunate contrast to another shop in the DC Metro area, which shall remain nameless.
This weekend I picked up a new regulator on close-out at a great price from "Shop X." This freed up my old regulator, an Aqualung...
