Another diver is now a first time panic attack victim

Don't want to hijack the thread, but just to clarify...our friend wasn't required to hire a DM, but he was to accompany a DM who was conducting a DSD off the boat in relatively shallow water. They wouldn't allow him on the deeper dives until he had done that. I think it's a pretty good...

Another diver is now a first time panic attack victim

As far as the refresher course goes...the only dive op I've ever been with insisted on our friend (PADI Rescue Trained) doing a check out dive with a DM as he hadn't dived for six months. Isn't this standard procedure? Ps. I'm assuming this was with a dive op and not an independant dive.

Florida: Diver found dead in Estero pond

There was mention of water mocassins in the OP, is it possible he was signalling distress due to snakebite?

    Happy day for me today...

I can tell you honestly that I didn't, but then I've only got snorkel, fins and mask. If I ever do, though, I'll be sure there's no camera in the room!! :D PS. Aaaah...well if it's the kitchen that's different!!

    Happy day for me today...

Yeah, umm, scuba gear looks a lot more cool in the water than in your hallway! ;-)

    big hello from MAURITIUS

Welcome to the board. I recently got ocean wet for the first time in Mauritius (with Blue Water Divers in Trou aux Biches). Where on (or should I say 'off) the island do you dive?

Certified and Dangerous. Where do we go from here?

I don't have anything of value to add, but I wanted to say that it's a very good thing that you are aware of your limitations. I really hope you continue with it, especially since you have the opportunity to dive warmer, more benign waters.

    My OW check out dives

Yeah, he's pretty amazing. When my husband, and the other divers, went down to the wreck, all the eels disappeared into the funnels. My husband's cousin, Hugues, went over and scratched on the funnels and the eels came out and (in my husband's words) greeted him like puppies welcoming their...

    My OW check out dives

Jim, as ever, the voice of reason and thank you for the encouragement. My primary reason for submitting my post was to perhaps encourage other nervous beginners not to give up. It's not a race to certification and, hey, I may just end up being the most accomplished DSDer (or non-OW cert'd...
