Easier way to get my bleepin' Wetsuit on :) ?

I sometimes apply soapy water to those tougher to suit up body parts (e.g. feet, forearms, etc.) I just keep a small bottle of dish soap in my gear bag for those occasions. Also, be sure that your suit is not too small for you, too tight can be as cold as too loose with regard to insulation...

Hi Friends, Today's puzzle involves the 'silversides' complex (I think!). Four individuals are photographed below: #1, #2a/2b, #3 & #4. I have guesses ... but am looking for more opinions. My best guesses: #1 ~ Hardhead Silverside (Atherinomorus stipes) #2 & #3 ~ Reef Silverside (Hypoatherina...

Crab ID Help - San Juan, PR

Hi Friends, Using Humann Reef Creatures 1st edition, this crab most closely resembles (Portunus sayi) Sargassum Swimming Crab. But I have my doubts for a reasons including the lack of Sargassum in the area and variance of color pattern from the photo in the Humann guide. size ~ 3" wide depth...

FISH ID Help - San Juan, PR

Hi Friends, Stumped by this fish. Seen fairly commonly in the shallows off Puerto Rico. Tend to lay on their side @ 45deg against camouflage before darting off. Not very approachable unless they think you cannot see them. This specimen was about 8"-10"; many other in the area range in size from...

    Shrimp ID help please

Nice guess! I believe you nailed it! Further research reveals that the Velvet Shrimp is also called the "Sandsifting" Brown Shrimp ... well the one in the photos ultimately tried to evade me by burying itself in the sandy bottom. Time for me to upgrade my Humann set. Still have 1st edition...

I'll be back for more guesswork; for now I'd say: #4 = Spotted Goatfish #5 = Orange-spotted Filefish #6-9 = needs closer review; intuition says to look at Spotted Scorpionfish or his cousins #10 = Bermuda/Yellow Chub complex Great photos!!!

Barracuda ... besides the great diagnostics already mentioned, note how the lower jaw protrudes past the upper jaw.

Because the area of dark coloration is so complete and so defined,my amateur guess is that this individual is showing melanism. I have seen it in birds but not in fish.

    Getting rid of the stink?

mirazime / MiraZyme has worked great for me. Have a large Rubbermaid garbage can dedicated to dunking my gear when i get home. add 1-2oz mirazime, fill with water (2/3's) insert wetsuit boots, etc, swish around for about 1 minute ... retrieve it the next day. Perfect record so far.
