Best land based locations with short boat rides to dive sites?

Lucky you...I just returned from two months diving Amed/Tulamben. Enak Bungalows is a nice place and their resto, Warung Enak, is one of the best restos in town. They have a great selection of Indonesian and Western dishes, with vegetarians well catered for. (Their pumpkin cheesecake is wicked)...

Where To Stay in Bunaken/Bangka now that prices have gone up?

Maybe AI is saying there's a great cheap dive resort called "Murex" in Bangladesh.

    Question Thailand Liveaboard suggestions (March/2025)

That is false. I have no commercial relationship with either Rumblefish or Scuba Nicks. I've dived with both and did my Divemaster course with Rumblefish and shore dive with them regularly.

    Question Thailand Liveaboard suggestions (March/2025)

Curious what "fact" you are referring to as I've had @Centrals blocked for good reason so don't know to what you're referring 🤔

Question Macro before Komodo LoB in May

I agree completely...local Tulamben natives with years diving the area are the best guides. The ones you mention are some of the best, as are Gede Noris (Utama) and Sas Meteor (freelance).(Hope I didn't blow your cover 😄) The question is what level of guiding do you need/want, one who is gonna...

Question Macro before Komodo LoB in May

Most of the world class UW macro photographers include regular stops at Tulamben...says something about the macro there

Question Macro before Komodo LoB in May

The guides at Wonder, Kadek (owner) and Bedug are no slouches. I've stayed and dived with both and would consider the guiding on par.

    Question Thailand Liveaboard suggestions (March/2025)

You can also book most Thailand LOBs through a local dive shop in Phuket. Contact them through their social media and work with them to sort it out; they can also answer questions about particular boats or itineraries. They also have info on any special deals (but unlikely to be any in Nov/Dec)...

    Question Thailand Liveaboard suggestions (March/2025)

For December, the height of the high season, I'd say have something booked by September if you want a particular ship or dates. If you're more flexible and going in November, a couple months before (September again) is fine.

Question Komodo in February? Scuba Junkies?

$400 dollars a nite is "very affordable," oh I see you're from San Francisco Bay Area.

Diving In May - First time in Indonesia

It's all in Bali too, without the extra hop, skip, and a jump to get there.

    Cebu Recommendations for Tentative Beginner?

There is varied marine life, and a lot of macro, in Malapascue not just Threshers. But I agree, do to time constraints and diver experience it would be better to go elsewhere.

    Dive concepts Bali

People should bare in mind that Dive Concepts is a "value" operator here in Bali. They have generally the cheapest prices and therefore attract a large and for the most part young crowd. This means that they have a lot of people passing through the dive center daily so more of a chance for...

    Itinerary feedback

Ambon and Lembeh are both known for their muck diving, so unless you want a double dose of it back to back you may want to reconsider this itinerary. Instead of Lembeh, maybe do resort based diving in Bunaken or Banka before heading to Ambon for your liveaboard.

Trip Report The Phinisi: Best of Thailand, plus touring

A very nice trip report...should be very helpful for many people. Pretty much sums up LOS diving...good not great. Too bad your southern Andaman trip didn't include Daeng/Muang and Ko Lipe...the best diving in Thailand IMO. When I'm in the Phinisi, I just sleep on deck in the saloon or topside...
