    RIP Rob Stewart!

It's such a tragedy...i still can't really believe it. I was honoured to meet him a few times, and helped him film some of the Fin Free campaign stuff in Toronto. He was a real hero...they're so rare...so sad. He raised so much consciousness about shark finning - before Sharkwater it was a...

BHB - Looking for a buddy for Nov. 7th

No, the Friday is the only time I'll be diving there - I'm doing boat dives with Pura Vida on Saturday the 8th, then just chillin till I fly back on Monday....

BHB - Looking for a buddy for Nov. 7th

Alternately....is solo diving there something people would consider doing as a first-timer? I've brushed up on the rough layout of the site - I guess the boat channels are the things to watch out for - are the buoys quite clear underwater? I'm not a cowboy when I dive, I just like being...

BHB - Looking for a buddy for Nov. 7th

I'll be heading down to Singer Island for a few days with my wife, who's normally my buddy but is now pregnant (!), and I'm looking to start off with a BHB dive during slack tide at 8am on Friday the 7th. I don't want to go solo so I could hire a guide ($$), and from what I've read it's a simple...

Special screws for attaching Mako knife?

Hey - thanks - and yeah i did exactly that and it works like a charm. In fact, the mako sheath actually had a little handy circle in the plastic where the whole should be. Got some rounded stainless lock nuts, fits nice and snug.

Special screws for attaching Mako knife?

I recently purchased a new GO BC, and realized that my knife is a Scubapro Mako...so I'm looking forward to being able to attach it to my BC. Here's my question - did my knife come with special screws to attach it to the grommets on my BC? And secondly, since I bought my knife years ago, where...

    Miflex hose curl?

I think this particular reg didn't come with the miflex, but he put one on anyways - saw him take it out of the packaging, so I doubt if it's defected. I think it's just brand new, they're curled up in the packages. Maybe this is the difference between Mares superflex hoses and Miflex (as a...

    Metal or Poly 2nd stage?

nice. I went with the Abyss 42, with a Prestige DPD octo. Would have liked the 52, but they didn't have it in stock and...well I was just excited and went with the 42. I was amazed how light the Abyss 2nd is...in my mind it had been built up to be this mammoth piece of heavy brass...haha...

    Miflex hose curl?

Thanks for the responses. @dumpsterdiver this is what I was trying to get at - I wasn't sure if there was options there or not (having never actually connected a first stage hose by myself) I just wasn't sure if there was 2 points of rotation at that connection. and @J2s they're not...

    Miflex hose curl?

@muzikbiz22 no it's not. good idea to check that though - makes sense that that could fix the problem. just curious about how it's attached, if rotating it on the 1st stage would help follow the hose's natural curl. I tried a reg a few weeks ago on miflex hoses and they were super floppy...

    Miflex hose curl?

Yeah, I'm trying that but it's still curling. It seems like if that's it's natural curl, that if I had the tech rotate it slightly coming out of the 1st stage, then it wouldn't be fighting it and would actually be fine, even with that "memory". I guess i'm wondering if that would do it - I don't...

    Miflex hose curl?

I've recently bought a new Abyss MR42 and my LDS set it up with a miflex hose which I wanted. I haven't been underwater with it yet, but when I set it up and place the first stage roughly where it'll be behind my neck, with the reg in my mouth, I'm noticing a tendency for the hose to have a curl...

Which brand gives back to the dive community the most?

Ah thanks, those were the links I couldn't seem to find;) I ended up going with a Mares reg and a Scubapro BCD thanks

Which brand gives back to the dive community the most?

As a diver I want to use my (albeit small) spending power to support brands that give back to the dive community and support organizations that are working towards helping the worlds oceans (Sea Save, Shark Savers, Manta Ray of Hope etc.) I've basically narrowed down my choices of a new...

    Metal or Poly 2nd stage?

adown - what did you end up deciding on? I was also looking at the Instinct, but i think I've settled on the Abyss 52. I'm trying to decide between that and the Titan LX. I like the idea of the Titan's ACD, but I like the feel of the Abyss and flex hoses...

    Octopus weight misprints?

I wasn't downloading the PDF manuals, just looking at the specs on the main site, and so apparently they're wrong - the weights I listed above are directly from their site. good to know, and to Mares...check it out! ---------- Post added March 1st, 2013 at 07:43 PM ---------- just checked it...

    Octopus weight misprints?

I'm currently deciding on which regulator setup to buy, doing lots of research through here and through the mares website and I'm a bit confused about something. It lists the weights of the octos as heavier than the 2nd stages. Can this be right? Trying to picture and understand how or why an...
