    BCD and Reg Recommendations??

Hubby and I now have the wetsuits, hoods, gloves, fins, boots...we are renting BCDs, Regs, weight belts and tanks...but we see how much we will be "wasting" on rentals, we are seriously considering buying the BCDs and Regs soon...like this weekend. We used weight-integrated BCDs last fall and...

    about tattoos

I have 10 tattoos and a piercing. My tattoos are not in any way controversial (flowers, dog portraits, beach scene), yet I still get judged. I get stupid questions and glaring looks (mainly from older people), but I didn't get any of these tattoos for anyone but me. The image is controversial...

How do you try different types of BCDs before buying?

You rock Rene and I will take a rain check indeed (my southern blood can't take the Canadian cold LOL). BUT I appreciate the offer and will take you up on it in the future! Thanks PS The last three dives have been really great and I plan on joining Sharkeys for Wet Wednesdays next year.

    Best Diver EVER!!

We got a CAA discount too and it was a 3 hour behind the scenes tour (including the 40 minute dive). And yes..no sea sickness...

    Best Diver EVER!!

Here are some pictures from the dive...they aren't super clear as they are screen captures from videos, but they are worth sharing

How do you try different types of BCDs before buying?

There are 3 dive shops in the Ottawa area and they all only rent the standard basic BCD. On our last dive, the gear included a weight integrated BCD (which I loved). I would also like to try a back inflated weight integrated BCD before we bite the bullet and buy. And there are different brands...

    Best Diver EVER!!

Thanks for all the replies. We go to Orlando at least once a year and are planning on doing some "real diving" there next time. This was exactly the experience I needed because I have been scared of sharks ALL sharks for as long as I can remember. This controlled environment was perfect for me...

    Best Diver EVER!!

Hubby and I were at Walt Disney World the last two weeks of September and we got to do the Dive Quest tour at Epcot. We got to dive in the tank there with the rays, fish, turtles and oh yeah...six sharks. I have been scared of sharks my entire life, but I have to tell you that this changed the...

WOW- that was a great dive!!

So hubby and I headed back to the quarry on Labour Day. It was really rather chilly here in Ottawa and most of the divers there (there were not many) had on dry suits. The first time we went back after our check out dives, it didn't go well. My suit was really big (like 3 sizes too big) and I...

Think back a little...what were you like as a new diver??

Thanks for all the great replies! This newbie has been back twice. The first time didn't go so great as my wetsuit was too big and I was really cold. We went back last Monday on Labour Day and everything went right. My suit fit, I went in with the right state of mind (I cannot stress what...

Think back a little...what were you like as a new diver??

Thanks for all the replies! Noody was nervous? Just me?:shocked2: Tomorrow we are headed back to quarry where we were certified. To be honest, there's not much to see (heck the visability is not so great), but we are going to just work on buoyancy control and descending without hurting my...

    1st day in the pool...Yikes!

Hang in there! I almost quit my first pool session. I got water up my nose and felt my confidence seeping out like a balloon that had just been popped. A patient and determined DM wouldn't let me (he knew I really wanted to be there). He congratulated me when we went to take the gear back 2...

Think back a little...what were you like as a new diver??

As a newly certified diver, I saw that my group had very different experiences.. My hubby was a fish from the beginning and never had an issue(Ok..he told me he was nervous at the beginning). Another girl in our group did everything asked of her but she told me she was nervous and is still...

Tried on the Bare Elastek wetsuit today...man I am in trouble

Before I even started the OW class, I looked at the cost of the housing for my Nikon D7000. EEKKK. As for traveling, I am a big fan already, so I know hubby and I are in for it now. We are heading to Paris soon and I swear I googled "Paris scuba" (obvioulsy didn't find much...but you get my...

Bad experience on very first dive... looking for some advice

I was overweighted on my check out dives last weekend. It was not a good feeling. I also had ear issues (and still do). I appauld you on not panicking (I did before my first dive but was able to calm down and get the tasks done). I wish you well with your ears and your diving.

Tried on the Bare Elastek wetsuit today...man I am in trouble

Hubby and I went to try on wetsuits today. I tried on two Bare wetsuits...the Artic and the Elastek. While the Artic 7mm was better than the thick, inflexible, super long astronaut suit I had to wear last weekend, it was nothing like the Elastek. The only thing about the Elastek is the arms are...
