August 2023 trip report and many, many pictures

I replaced my Olympus EM-5 with an OM-1 last year. It was hard to believe the EM-5 was almost ten years old!

August 2023 trip report and many, many pictures

The large black groupers have all but disappeared in recent years. I suspect the invasive lionfish may be to blame for eating the fry. The last two years, we have seen fewer turtles than in the past; I have not explanation. Other than that, the reefs are healthy and there are lots of fish.

TG6 and Backscatter mini flash 2

I agree but I have FOMO (fear of missing out). My prime lenses are much sharper but limited in scope. I would like to buy some of the pro lenses for above water photography but those are $$$$.

TG6 and Backscatter mini flash 2

The 30mm lens doesn't hunt like the 60mm and is OK for some macro. Frankly, I prefer the 12-50 for nearly all of my underwater pictures, with the exception of WA where I use the 8mm FE.

TG6 and Backscatter mini flash 2

Weather conditions haven't been good here in Los Angeles for months. I haven't had the opportunity to take the OM-1 in the water much. We return to Cozumel in August for many, many underwater photo opportunities. I have an 8mm FE, 12-50 zoom, 30 mm, and 60mm.

Not that I know of. We've been going to SCC for over thirty years with no problems. I think I would have heard. I'm calling the FB post fake news.

    Frog Fish on Cedral Wall

Batfish are certainly not "common" in Cozumel waters but they are known. There are a couple of species, roughback and long nose.

New BackScatter mini flash, TTL and RC with Olympus

I have to confess, I bought one but it's lobster season and I've been hunting instead of taking photographs. I've only played with the new flash on land and it works as advertised. If you are shooting macro, it's the way to go, small, powerful and capable of snooting. My boat buddy Roger has...

ED 12-50mm lens with WWL-1: does it work? Is it worth it?

If you want to travel lightly, be forewarned the WWL-1 is very, very heavy! Why not the 8mm lens behind a small dome port?

He and his wife were at the safety stop, holding hands. He got caught in a downcurrent. He let go of his wife's hand so she could go up. He has not...
