    Avalon Conditions Sat?

Thanks all for your info! The surge was pretty strong but nothing that we haven't seen before in the park. Was a couple of good dives. The highlights were that the kelp is coming back. Also we saw a 4 foot black sea bass at about 50 feet not too far from the Cousteau plaque in the middle of...

    Avalon Conditions Sat?

My wife and I are planning on going to Avalon on Sat to finally get wet this year. I am looking at the weather and it looks like we are going to have some Santa Ana activity. Does anyone have a surf report, should we reschedule?

    Avalon Dive Park Water Temp

The wife and I are going to be headed over to Avalon on Friday to get in some dives. It will be her 1st dives since we did our advanced cert last May with Chris at Scuba Luv because we found out the next day she was pregnant with our daughter. In any case, how have the water temps been...

    Video Editing Software

I second the power director vote. I have been using it with my go pro video for 2 years, very easy to use, does a nice job. Fair warning, you need a decent computer or the rendering takes forever.

    Warm Water Considerations?

My friend and I are signed up to do some dives out in Catalina in a couple weeks. Admittedly we are excited to see some of the non-native species that are haning out because of the unusually warm water. I have heard several reports of hammerheads out near the island. Is there anything we...

Squeeze Lock Knife on Zeagle Stiletto

I put new grommet wholes in the pocket of my wifes scuba pro bcd to fit the screws on her squeeze lock knife. Was really easy to do and the grommets and tool are available at any hobby shop.

    Best specialties to start with

I dont know about marketable, but if you want to help begining divers, peak performance buoyancy. After more than 50 dives, many below 100 feet, in drifts, in cold water, in kelp, I got my advanced card. Had an awesome instructor that had my wife and I in the shallows, full gear end of dive...

Washing regulator at the dive site. Aggressive Spray or slow trickle

The easiest way to clean your reg is to make sure the cap is installed on the 1st stage and then just dunk it in fresh water. A sink full of water does nicely. Take all of 10 seconds.

    Concerned Scuba.com shopper

I have used them a few times and never had any issues, always got what I ordered when they said it would come.

how do you plan with a zoop with your buddies?

On the zoop if you go into the logbook it will tell you what your average depth was for your last dive. If you take that and then use the dive tables you can get a feel for how much bottom time you can get at a certain depth after your planned surface interval. It will be conservative but it...

    Wonderful Day At Avalon

It had been a while since my wife and I have gotten wet, so we took the express out to Avalon. We were a little worried because I guess there had been some storms out there recently. But we had a lovely surprise of some wonderful diving on Friday. Here is a quick link to some video Diving 7...

Buoyancy in 7 mil and how to be a good instabuddy -- kelp!

28 lbs is way too much weight. I am 5'4" and 175 and dive a steel 95 and usually go with 16-18 lbs. Once you get to 30 ft the wetsuit is going to conpress a lot and you will sink like a stone so be prepared to hit the inflator button with a couple quick bursts around 30 ft. The trick is to...

Baby shampoo *is* the best defog

My wife and I have been using a 1:1 dilution of baby shampoo in a squirt bottle for over a year works great. Spray it on, swirl around dump and excess and your good to go. No rinsing required no streaks from not rinsing the gel off, very easy.

Key West and Key Largo recommendations

My Wife and I just booked a trip to dive the keys for our 5th anniversary. We are looking for good recommendations for good dive operators in Key west and Key Largo in September.

OW test at Casino Point, freaked out, didn't pass

I tend to agree with this assessment. I have had a few times here in so Cal that as soon as the cold water hit my face I immediately couldn't catch my breath. The snorkling and taking it slow advice above is a good one. At the dive park just snorkeling out to the student buoys keeping you...

Mares Puck Pro vs Suunto Zoop

My wife and I both have zoops over 100 dives, cold water warm water rock solid. Fair warning if you like to push your luck the algorithm is conservative so if you are doing 4 a days or a live aboard don't be surprised it you run out of no decomp time before others in the group. Overall very...

    Chamber Day Aboard the Magician

We had the opportunity to do chamber day aboard the magician this year and had a great time. While the visibility left something to be desired, we had two nice dives and a really nice tour of the chamber. A big thanks to captain Jerry, dive masters Jason and Richard, and Chef Margo for making...
