There are trucks that are not manual on the island. Rental facilities such as Avis have them. I rent from avis but never pay extra for the automatic.
Its not just you. Its a physically demanding class. At least it should be for a good instructor. I can name off some big name instructors who's class is little more than "where do you want to go in the cave" or just repeat trips to the henkle. All with very little skills thrown in.
I 100%...
Cave DPV by far was my toughest cave related class. I took it with Edd and his class is pretty tough, as is yours from the sounds of it. There were times on day 2 and 3 my wife and I looked at each other and wondered why we were still taking the class cause we sucked so bad. It gets better. Edd...
Let me introduce you to my friend Brad Horn.
Thats a joke. Don't say his name two more times or he'll show up.
(for anybody that doesnt get the joke, search his name here).
They may be good valves but not worth extra money. First time they get hooked up to a dive shops fill lines you have the potential for contamination and even if the valve “opens more slowly” you could still go boom. The reality is oxygen fires are not that common in our world. Mind you I’m not...
A guide is unnecessary. It’s a huge cavern. Don’t go down past around the 130ish foot mark where the shelf extends back and you have a hard overhead. Imo it’s an ow safe cavern. At least that’s how the management see it. Free divers are constantly there.
Then I would guess about 6 months to a year after your class. I wish they kept it just for posterity and so people who will never normally see one will get to see one. There was one in a popular cave in Mx, I think Pet Cemetery or one of the lines to Blue Abyss, but I never saw it before it got...
This is not fully accurate and why ,any of us don’t bail to onboard dil
@kensuf has a good story of why an onboard dil would not have been a good idea when his buddy had a co2 hit
I would say if you’re bailing out to a small onboard cylinder, you need to go to a reg. If you’re plumbing off board dil which many of us are due to the risks of bailing to a 3L, then you stay on the bov. I won’t dive onboard dil for this very reason among others
It’s been quite a few years. I think maybe around 4 but I rarely enter via Martz anymore and am horrible with associating a memory I with a time frame. But my brain tells me at least 3 years.
I’m interested to see how good my memory is.
The term sherpa has become colloquialized. It’s used by people daily not just in diving.
If someone thinks anyone referring to a porter as a sherpa is being racist, that’s just stupid (not directed at you since you didn’t insinuate that).
Good on you for doing it the right way. Most people basically do it as a trust me dive most of the time it seems nowadays. I was taught in my training to do it as you describe. It makes sense, and it's the safe way.
When i was newly full cave many years ago tons of friends tried to get me to...
There's no baffle or anything to help with water? I thought there was supposed to be.
I've never been a big fan of the golem/iQsub BOVs. I'm very happy with the divesoft. Its more neutral in the water and I never get jaw fatigue. With the golem there's definite fatigue due to the weight. People...
Being the dive shop will make more money off of a customer who doesn’t have enough experience to know they’re being upsold. Big red flag for the dive shop. Run far away
We all have very varying opinions on the book and the instructor. I personally put both in the same category based on first hand knowledge. To each their own.
