Rescue Diver with a back inflator?

Last summer I got my new BC, AL Lotus i3. It is a back inflate and does not have a hose, but the i3 lever instead. I did my Rescue Diver course, and it worked out great. Go for it!

    Sony NEX-7 Photo's with 30mm macro

I have been using the Sony NEX-7 as well this summer while down in Roatan. I have not used the viewfinder, just the screen. Here is a sample of some of the shots I have been able to get. It's important to note that most of these pictures have a very sizeable amount of cropping. I have the...

    scuba pedicure

Here are some more designs I have done since my last post. I did the anti-shark finning ones for Earth Day, and Project AWARE actually put them on the banner for their Facebook page! :)

What do Safe Divers do that Unsafe Divers don't?

The consensus amongst my friends was that it looked like Cookie Monster. I still laugh when I look at that pic. :P One thing I would actually like to add to this is never think that just because the crew set up your equipment, that they did it right. I encountered this in Cozumel, they didn't...

What do Safe Divers do that Unsafe Divers don't?

One more thing, know your equipment, know your buddy's equipment. This particularly applies to vacation divers who rent equipment. Have your dive shop explain all of the functions of your computer! Understand your buddy's computer, they might not. Otherwise you or your buddy might go into deco...

What do Safe Divers do that Unsafe Divers don't?

After reading through this whole thread there are some things I would like to add that can be of vital importance and have not been discussed. Number one: Your ENVIRONMENT This is not just conditions, this is the ecology that surrounds you. I truly think this is of vital importance. If you do...

Activities in Utila for Non-Diver and after Dives

From what I have read this is mostly a concern in areas that are affected by Cigutera.

    Nauticam NEX-7 housing announced

I just got the NEX-7 and was wondering if anyone has tried using the 16mm + fisheye with the port for the 18-55mm lens as opposed to the dome port. If I can forgo purchasing the fisheye port it would save me a lot, and I am a student so this is pretty important. I know there might be some...

Activities in Utila for Non-Diver and after Dives

Well I don't think its any better to just be complacent about the situation. I just recently decided to give up fish and seafood (with the only exception being Lionfish), something I never thought I would do as it was pretty much the mainstay of my diet. Will there always be tourists wanting to...

Activities in Utila for Non-Diver and after Dives

I was only ever served undersized at RJ's, never at Bubalu's. It is pretty ironic that all the restaurants there have those types of practices considering they all display the sustainable seafood signs very prominently. Just so that you know, I will probably be doing sustainability best...

Activities in Utila for Non-Diver and after Dives

The Lighthouse is great, I stayed there last year and will be staying there again when I go for the Dive Festival in August. Thelma is really awesome and will take great care of you. You can also flush the tp there, not like most other places, they have their own well and backup generator as...

    scuba pedicure

Oh my gosh, I can't believe I missed this thread!! When I was in Coz in Feb I kept seeing chicks with cute dive flag toes, and LOVED them! Its funny, I recently underwent major surgery and as I was/am pretty much useless while recovering I picked up a new hobby, doing art nails. Turns out I am...

Cost of Living: Utila -vs- Roatan

Thanks so much for the info!! I will be there for about three months, so it looks like I should be able to get a decent deal on a longer term rental. Any awesome hidden gems I should know about? If you don't want to share it too widely send me a private message. :) I can't wait to get to know...

Cost of Living: Utila -vs- Roatan

Cool, so it sounds pretty much like I could live like I did in Utila, but if I wanted to spend a lot of money I don't have I could go fancy and pretend to be in North America. This should be interesting. I don't know too much about Roatan, where is the hub of where most happens with tourism on...

Cost of Living: Utila -vs- Roatan

Hi RTBDiver, I am not looking for anything fancy, but I need a door that locks. I will be doing a volunteer project and basically have to bring my own office with me, so that is important. Other than that, a fan is good, and a/c better but not a deal breaker. I don't eat lobster for breakfast...
