Diving incident at Eagles Nest Sink

The Abyss Room is a much more straightforward dive than Revelation Space. The Abyss Room was first explored in the early 90s by Larry Green, Jim King, Sheck Exley and George Irvine. Exley and subsequently Green and King had seen the restriction at the end of the Room of Dreams (what we are now...

Diving incident at Eagles Nest Sink

Or, to go back one step, avoid getting into a situation where you think it is necessary. The root cause of this accident is that these divers, although trained and experienced cave divers, were not experienced enough to attempt this very advanced cave dive. Unfortunately, like previous fatal...

Diving incident at Eagles Nest Sink

I couldn't agree more. It was definitely a significant hole in the swiss cheese on the day. If that stage had been further in the cave (where I think more experienced divers might have chosen to place it) or more visible the outcome could have been very different.

Diving incident at Eagles Nest Sink

Hit the nail on the head there. By the way, I didn't mean to give the idea the restriction is 'easy', just that it is possible to go through it easily on one day and then have a big problem another day. It is quite wide, and easy to get off the correct route, and once off it the restriction is...

Diving incident at Eagles Nest Sink

Well, speaking as someone who has been through that restriction a few times, I can tell you that on a good day it's easy. On a bad day it's very very difficult indeed. The only reason to get out of his CCR was to get free of the restriction. It was clearly not a planned manoeuvre. Why he didn't...

Twin Dees / Weeki Wachee Beleriand Tunnel

Thanks for all the kind comments everyone. Twin Dees is truly a wonderful cave and is definitely in my top 5. Brett Hemphill and I connected it to Weeki Wachee last year so the two caves are now one system. Weeki was also in my top 5 so that has made an extra slot :-) We last were able to get...

    Calling Prism users.

I don't use my dive computer to track it. My dive computer is there to calculate my decompression. These are not technical-level dives that have a significant CNS oxygen exposure. Andy

    Calling Prism users.

I use a Buddy Nexus (the auto setpoint switchover feature is ideal) set to 0.1 ata less than the Prism setpoint. Works very well. I also use a two-mix nitrox computer (Dive Rite Nitek Plus) set to the correct FO2 for my planned depth & setpoint and 80% for the second mix. At 20 feet I flush...

    Rebreather idiot with question?

I think he's spent enough time with various navies to be able to manage both of those. Not to mention years of UK diving, getting blown out and having to spend the weekend in the pub. Andy

    rebreather for videographer

Stefan, you've been so restrained! :speak_evi The Prism has a HDD and one of the reasons I bought one was because I shoot a lot of video and I wanted not to be having to look at a handset the whole time. Fantastic design, but I don't want to start all that up again ;) Only problem is...

Are rebreathers safe to dive with

And just to prove how pointless a statistic that is (as indeed most are), a CCR diver has drowned at the NDC. http://www.divernet.com/news/stories/death290504.shtml Does that make RB diving less safe than OC now? My commiserations are with his family and friends. Please be careful out...

    Intersting question, Possible medical problem?

It would be useful to know whether this is true vertigo (i.e. does the dizziness have a rotatory component where he feels that he or the environment is rotating) or just a non-specific feeling of being "fuzzy" in the head. If it is vertigo, I'd be interested to know if he ever experiences it...
