    Anybody else encounter tech arrogance?

I've always hated the distinction people have about rec and tech divers. In an OW class one evening a student, while going over pressure, ata and dive tables said they just wanted to go under water and see things, not learn "all of this technical stuff". So even the basic stuff is technical...

Why the hate/ridicule for split fins?

I have a set of splits and a set of popular paddle fins for cave diving and I use both regularly. I have practiced with both sets and can do all the kicks people tell you aren't possible with both sets well. Expect a back kick which I can't do at all due to a knee injury and nerve damage which...

Diverite vs SPro Hydro vs AL Outlaw vs Helios ?

I checked with the DM who dove it on the trip and she stated it wasn't different than the Zuma to her. In the real short time I tried it I didn't notice any difference from mine.

Diverite vs SPro Hydro vs AL Outlaw vs Helios ?

I know its been a while since you asked but we finally got a chance to dive one on a recent Florida trip. One of the DMs on the trip used one. She has been using a Aqua Lung Zuma for travel the last couple years and likes it. She felt like the Rogue is much better and any drawbacks on the...

    Light recommendations

I use a Light Monkey LED for my primary. The service at LM is superior. The instances over the last few years they have gone above and beyond. The first two instances weren't even their lights but they had them up and running quickly. The last was simply a service since the light had several...

Diverite vs SPro Hydro vs AL Outlaw vs Helios ?

The larger pockets that come with the Rogue were back on the hips, vertical. There are also add on trim pockets that sit on either side of the tank above the band

Diverite vs SPro Hydro vs AL Outlaw vs Helios ?

Got to see the Rogue at DEMA. It is a lot like the Outlaw but with the (from my point of view at least) concerns addressed; stainless rings, availability of weight trim pockets, ditch able weight pockets included and slightly larger wing with a right shoulder dump valve. I was impressed with...

Mid 1996, my number is (mid) 99***. My understanding on the numbers is how Wookie describes it.

    Starting your Gear Collection

some good advice here. I would suggest that you do some diving and research. Decide what you want from this adventure and then head toward that as a goal. Try different gear and set ups see what works best for you and your personal goals. You can become gear poor buying a lot of things then...

    Mouthpiece options

Pete, You have one on both second stages? A couple years ago during a Rescue Class we had a lady with one on her reg and found when reviewing air sharing that some of the students couldn't use it. It caused a couple to gag and one teenager couldn't even seal the mouthpiece to breath off it...

Out of gas - what happens next?

I have actually seen one and been involved in two that turned out to be equipment problems. One the divemaster was checking everyone as they got in, and turned the tank valve off, then on a half turn. At depth it didn't deliver air enough for the diver and she calmly came over and signaled...

Alright, why can't I trim full horizontal? Tips?

There is some good advice here to try. Another thing to look at is body trim. Sometimes divers arch their back to tilt their heads up more and creates what you're talking about also. It's hard to get used the change in angle for what you see when diving and what you're used to when walking.

In search of octo holder that actually works

I'm a fan of the bungee necklace and use it on all my reg sets for much of the same reasons boulderjohn stated earlier. My story involves a chance to go diving unplanned so rental gear was being used. The octo was supposedly held on the shoulder strap by a snorkel keeper. Lets just say it...

Travel Friendly BCD (but not a "Travel BCD")

I have used my Scout in relatively cold water, (down to about 60 degrees) with a dry suit and single steel LP 104 in fresh water. At the beginning and end of the season I regularly use a 5mil suit and LP steel 80 and it does fine. One of the features about it I really appreciate is the PFS...

Travel Friendly BCD (but not a "Travel BCD")

I'm big fan of the Zeagles. Personally I have two and put my daughters in them when they started diving. For travel, single tank stuff I use the Scout. It is a little smaller than the Stilletto and has the features you talked about. Between teaching and playing it has well over a thousand...

    Question for my wife,

Both my daughters like yoga pants, both under their wetsuits and by themselves. They have convinced my wife to try it for really warm water so I guess the arguments were pretty good.

    Long hose and PSD?

The long hose for caving isn't to reduce entanglements, but to facilitate air sharing where you have to dive head to toe through smaller spaces. While a few times during the 26 years I was affiliated with a team a normal hose may have gotten caught by something a couple times, more often it...
