    Helix Side Mount

Hi all, First off, I co-designed the Helix and will try to address the issues raised without overly plugging the system. Secondly, thanks for the comments and thoughts so far. It's always good to know what the users think. The OP makes the excellent observation that Helix is designed as a...

Side mount single tank appropriate for recreational Open Water diving?

Interesting to read the contrasting experiences and views of the posters. I, and many friends, dive SM recreationally in SE Asia. Most of us use the Helix Sidemount as it's small and lightweight and very travel friendly, or a DIY equivalent. When I first started out I didn't have any balance...

Side Mount Divers, what you do when travelling?

Helix SM is being launched at ADEX 2012 (Asian Dive Expo in Singapore). The website is still being added to but there are some pics of the harness and some accessories that go with it. There are some unique features that you will find are not present in other SM systems. Some innovations...

    Web site :(

I'm quite surprised that the ability to 'find a course' has been removed. There is no way for me to search for specialist courses now. Even the drop down box for dive centers has limited options. SDITDI please please please put back the features that professionals need in order to 'sell' their...

    Sidemount inflator hose routing

Surely it also depends on the relative position of the bladder on your back. For those who have it quite low down nearer the waist it's ok to have it come from under your arm. But for those who use, say a triangle shape bladder, with the apex around the shoulder blades it would make sense to...

Do we need to use the butt plate.

That would suggest entry without the tank and clipping on in the water. Or else the tank may shift upon entry and they'd have to readjust on the surface prior to descending. Not a bad solution but it would also mean repositioning for the second and any subsequent dives. If the D-ring is fixed...

Crotch Strap - can i add one to my BCD if it did not come with one.

I have a SeaQuest Unlimited Pro and even when strapped tightly it does sometimes have a tendency to migrate when upside down. Not using the integrated weight pouches does help but it also helps to ensure it's the right fit for you in the first place. Try adjusting the lower back and spine...

    Polish sidemount rig

The Eques system looks interesting and you can see that it has specific aspects designed for cave divers in mind but I'm not too sure about the loose bungee cord on the back and the use of bungee cord and double snap-bolts to secure the bladder at the front. It also seems quite bulky when packed...

Do we need to use the butt plate.

There is no need for a butt plate on SM configuration. Using a waist D-ring is more than adequate. I know some divers who have two waist D-rings and they switch to the second towards the end of the dive. Still others strap a weight to the bottom of the tank on the CAM band before diving. I've...

    computer and sidemount

Transmitters are nice to have on recreational dives but for serious penetration they can get damaged and a back-up is always a good idea. When I dive SM I use a mini-guage screwed directly in to the first stage but I can understand why some people would use a 6" or 9" hose.

Side Mount Divers, what you do when travelling?

Hi, interesting topic. As a diver based in SE Asia let me put my two cents worth in.... I also use a SM configuration. It's a Helix Sidemount, designed and assembled in Singapore. It's worldwide launch is at ADEX in Singapore next month. I'm not plugging it so please don't get the wrong idea...
