Must-have accessories for first boat dive

I wear a G-Shock in addition to my computer, keeping it set on the 1:00 countdown timer. When the DM says "...pool's open, be back in one hour", I start the countdown running.

    C - card question

One note about the older PADI certs. There was a fire or some other disaster at PADI HQ in the early 80's (so I'm told) and most of the records were destroyed. My OW cert dates to '79 and I wasn't in their database. After taking AOW a few years ago, all is well for me.

What length "Long Hose" for Single Tank w/ Pony setup?

I'm glad this question came up. A while back I switched to a 5' primary with a necklaced backup. Long hose routing continues to bug me and I always get comments from DMs as I'm about to drop in. "Whoa there buddy, you've got that hose all tangled up, and it's around your neck!", then I have...

    Drink of water

I have to agree with DMD on this point. Make sure that you are well hydrated BEFORE the dive, but I can see where it might be fun to try. The Tech folks dream up all sorts of things to try (eat, drinks, books, play cards, etc.) on those long deco stops.

The Scuba SNobs Guide to Diving Etiquette Book 2

I bought the Kindle version of the first book and loved it. So much that I immediately bought the second book as well. The funny thing is that I started reading wanting to hear about those novice idiots and the things they pull on dive trips. I even thought that I might even qualify as a...

    Masks

+1 on avoiding purge masks. The valve is a likely failure point, plus a PV is just a crutch anyway. Without a purge, you will learn to clear a mask without thinking about it. It'll just be second nature to you. Try on a bunch and pick one that seals well for you. All else being equal, lean...

Bahai Honda State Park Shore Diving?

Its a popular myth about shore diving in the Keys. The reality is that it isn't very good, but there are places where the (poor) locals go for cheap diving. When I was there with the Navy, the local folks took me to an abandoned neighborhood on Sugarloaf Key. It was pretty cool in that a...

Gulf Shores dive attempt and lessons learned

Did you guys go to Perdido Cut for the bridge dive? We did some of our AOW dives there a few weeks ago. To anchor the dive flag, our instructor brought along a dog leash stake. A couple of quick turns into the bottom and you have a solid attachment. Greg
