    Dive Buddy Checklist

PADI's BWRAF or NAUI's ABCD cover most of your pre-dive issues. NAUI also teaches SEABAG regarding other planning matters. Some of your items, like a loose tank, pertain strictly to a lame buddy. You are right about discussing air sharing, since there are several ways of doing this in...

    A Little Worried....

That is exactly right. There are several ways to deal with this. Keep your gear serviced, at least annually. Practice OOA drills with your buddy, before you go into the water. Stick close to your buddy throughout your dive. Make sure you are always neutrally buoyant while...

    A Little Worried....

Well if you do not trust your buddy, then yes, you should have your own alt air source (pony), because diving with a buddy you dont trust is akin to solo diving, and for solo diving you should definitely have redundancy of some type, either doubles or a pony. Dont mis-take my statement as an...

Thanks Curt. Looking forward to it.

    Gloves and boots?

If you are diving with a 7mm suit and you are still cold, then you are an excellent candidate for a drysuit. Once you get your drysuit, then you can layer your feet with thin gortex sox covered with thick woolen skiing sox. Thats what I do, and my feet are toasty warm inside my drysuit.

    A Little Worried....

I agree with Rick. Stick close to your buddy, in case you have an OOA problem or equipment failure.

    A Little Worried....

Just remember Cousteau's own rule: Dont hold your breath while using the scuba. Then you should be fairly safe while diving. Take an AOW course, as soon as you can, for some more supervised diving. Join a scuba club, for some organized diving. Soon you will be a natural at scuba, and...

Do you wear your "rings" diving??

Our jewelers warned my wife and I not to dive with our rings on, because the cold water shrinks your fingers, and the rings can easily fall off. For anyone with cheap rings, it probably doesn't matter. For my wife's ring, it matters a whole lot however. We lock ours in the safe deposit box...

    "A Tax on the Gullible..."

Zeagle has some really great Tech and 911 models, many times more comfortable and versatile than a backplate model. There are lots of good choices available. One style does not meet the needs of all.

    Sharks and your experiences

The original topic was related to South Africa not Florida nor other warm water tourist sites. Therefore it will be really easy to give this person inaccurate impressions.

    Instructor presentations

I am sure Dr. BRW is indeed the one who finally persuaded them. But it did take him quite some time to accomplish it. Fortunately the Freedom To Teach allows you to teach as you see fit.

A whale shark would never bite you. Not even a small frye like you, Soggy.

    "A Tax on the Gullible..."

The original version of the expression comes from France, and is: "A lottery is a tax on imbeciles." Similarly, a backplate and wing for nontechnical divers is in my view such a tax. But as Pete would probably say, one man's tax is another man's gold mine.

    Sharks and your experiences

No shark is to be trifled with. But the ones you mention are definitely "miniatures" compared to the real landlords of Australia, South Africa, and California. Sweetie.

    Bp+w

Your best bet would be a Zeagle fabric "backplate" in their Ranger, Tech, and 911 models. Then you can roll it up for scuba travel. The "wing" is also interchangable between different sizes as well.

    Sharks and your experiences

    Like I said, "miniatures."

    Sharks and your experiences

Try diving in Australia, South Africa, or the Fallalon Islands of California, and then get back to us.

    Sharks and your experiences

Do a slow and thorough search, and concentrate on Australia. Texas does not have real sharks, only miniatures. Texas does not have real scuba diving either, only mudholes and gulf water.

    Instructor presentations

I did "technical applications to nontechnical diving." Extra mask, safety sausage with line spool, jon line for boat dives, backup lights at all times, dual knives at all times, mirror for signalling and for bubble checks, deep stops, etc. as topics within the presentation. NAUI has since...
