My buddy gets a cramp (see video)

One of my only concerns in diving ... is getting cramps. Nobody seems to have a good answer. I seem to do better in my drysuit. Does anybody have a concrete idea for avoiding cramps?

    First Dive with BP/W...

No big deal changing to a BP/w. I use a diverite transpack with a stainless steel back plate. Helps with keeping horizontal trim.

    Navigating underwater from boat dives

Nothing is better than swimming around for 45 minutes, then surfacing right next to the boat. And nothing is worse than surfacing and finding you have a 150 yard surface swim against current. An invitation for a leg cramp! With that being said, I like to follow the bow line and start out...

    First time diving vacation Belize

I would recommend all of you getting certified prior to your trip. Your training should involve 1 to 2 pool sessions and 4 open water dives. I think you guys will have more fun on vacation if you show up ready to dive.

Kayaking to scuba spot? Anybody do it?

I have recently purchased 2 yaks for diving, freediving, exercise, and fishing. I have a 12.5 ft. Malibu pro explorerand a 12 ft. Pompano from Westmarine. I have not yet dove from Yaks but plan on doing so. I like the idea of paddling out to a good dive spot without doing a major surface...

Is GUE Fundies right for me?

Hi ZachB, I have taken private lessons from both Steve Millington and Karim Hamza. I have not drank the koolaid, and may never take Fundies, however I can see a huge benefit in the GUE training and I can honestly say that there is a huge noticable difference in their diving skills and teaching...

Check dives, private DMs, and local/shop policies

drrich2, I see your point, however a diver in need of rescue may also put others in harms way. Also a dive operation is similiar to a flight center in respect to accidents may negatively influence public opinion.

Check dives, private DMs, and local/shop policies

I like to compare Scuba Diving to flying a plane. If you go to a new flight center, the chief pilot will go over your log book and have you answer some questions. At that point no matter who you are and what your experience level is, you have to go on a check ride to get signed off. Simple as...

    Master Diver Certification

Cetus, First, congradulation on your MDC! I also dive with my Daughter (19 years old) and my 24 year old Son. I unfortunately do not understand the ins and outs of some of the issues in this tread but would like to give you some advise as If you were my Brother or close friend. As a pilot and a...

    Over exertion

I personally see a high value being in good cardio condition. In sports when you get tired the first sign of it shows up in your thinking.

    Failed Open Water Dive Update

I was also in a 7mil rental full wetsuit for my pool work in OW. It makes sense that you would want to use the "EXACT" equipment for your pool work and for your open water dives. For myself, the wetsuit, hood and gloves were the equipment that took the most getting used to.:)

Contradictions for AOW, deep diver, and just diving

Although I've cought hell from SB for introducing my 19 year old daughter to scuba, in our 8 ft. pool, without an instructor, On this issue I would only consider the conservative approach. As a matter of fact I would recommend your Daughter taking AOW, Getting the instructor's blessings, and...

    Tank sizes when diving

I purchased a hp100 steel tank based on recomendations. I was told by dive pros that it was the best overall tank for obvious reasons.

    Kayak diving?

I'm planning on flopping off the kayak with fins and mask on, pulling off tank and inflated BCD, getting into BCD on surface, doing a buddy check and away we go. With help from my dive buddy, I'm also hoping I can flop the tank and BCD back on the back of the Kayak. I also plan on practicing...

    Kayak diving?

I just bought a sit on top Malibu pro explorer - fish and dive Kayak. Today I cruised around malibu and got some good exercise. I can see the benifit of using the kayak to avoid long surface swims. Does anybody have any experience diving from a Kayak? Also any suggestions?:)

    Failed Open Water Dive

I also had some problems with my OW training due to a bad fitting wetsuit and a uncomfortable BCD. However, I was very surprised how much easier it became after some practice getting geared up. Take your time and figure out the best way to get in and out your wetsuit, hood and gloves and fins.

    Drysuit Wonderland

I love my dry suit as well. What I've experienced diving dry, is at the end of day I have a lot more energy than when I use my 7m wetsuit. Keeping nice and warm during the dives and waiting to dive times, helps save energy.

    Regulator bungie for recreational diver

I have my octo on a yellow rubber necklace purchased from my local LDS. If I have the opportunity to donate, I can easily remove it with a small pull. If someone yanks my reg out of my mouth, I have my octo right under my chin to use.

Mr and mrs new divers ow cert passed in sharm

Diving locally in cold water may not appeal to your wife, However finding a local heated pool ( over 12 ft. deep) can work to keep your wifes skills and confidence up. Doing all the basics should be a fun experience. If I have not dived for some time, I like to dive in my own pool or go to...
