That is technically correct, but this is the first operator I've dove with in a long time that actually mandated it. Most places where I have dove with Nitrox, they suggest analyzing your own tanks but do not confirm and/or mandate that this analysis takes place.
That happened to me on day 1. We were headed to the U-boat, but as we got close, the crew made the decision to switch to the Aeolus based on the conditions.
@drrich2 your report was the one I read a few times when I was preparing for my trip! To comment on some of your points:
1) The Dive Lodge is still available. Somebody who was staying there mentioned it was $40/nt, which is cheap. Basically just a dorm room.
2) The drive to Raleigh was just...
Why NC?
North Carolina has been on my list for a while. The combination of numerous wrecks and sand tiger sharks is irresistible, and I always like exploring more diving in the U.S. Coming from NH, warm-water diving is also a nice change!
Getting There
This was difficult. We were originally...
I did a Sea of Cortez liveaboard in November 2020. I imagine it's a long day boat ride, but Los Islotes is home to a sea lion colony that is full of cute youngsters who will playfully nip and interact with you. You could probably get there from La Paz.
Cabo Pulmo is an obvious stop. I've heard...
Lake Champlain is the winner by a long shot. Learn more here in my thread: Primer to Diving Lake Champlain
Base yourself in Burlington. For accommodation, you have numerous Airbnbs, hotels, etc. You can even camp near the beach. Waterfront Diving Center in Burlington runs 2-tank charters most...
Cabo Pulmo can be excellent, but hit-or-miss. I did four dives there one day on a Nautilus liveaboard trip in 2020. Dives 1-3 were unimpressive rocky reefs with lots of fish. Dive 4 was 45 minutes with the famous "jack tornado" of CP. That was utterly amazing, and would ultimately be my second...
GMNF runs through a significant portion of Vermont, so it is hard to give you a specific recommendation. IMO the best VT diving is in Lake Champlain, which could be really close or really far depending on where you are actually headed.
Agreed with all of this. I was certified at Low Key in 2010 and I return to STJ regularly (my folks have a timeshare). I like diving there, but I too have visited the same sites countless times, and it's equally enjoyable to snorkel. I love trips to STJ, but it's definitely not a serious dive...
Title says it all. Spending a week in Atlantic Beach in early August, hoping to spend as many days as possible diving! Both of these outfits seem to be well-reviewed, so I'm just curious as to why folks might choose one over the other.
Thank you!
Actually, marine-based sources only make up 20-30%. The remaining 70-80% is from land-based sources.
How much of ocean plastics come from land and marine sources?
The original scientific paper is linked in there as well.
I'll answer what I can:
1. You might be able to snag a "Black Friday" deal where they shave another $100-200 off the price. Otherwise, to get cheaper usually requires a last-minute cancellation on a trip, which could be difficult to plan for.
3. Most of the cenotes are between Playa del Carmen...
