The "mechanical rotary head switch" that Orcatorch is referring to is a simple tighten to turn on, unscrew to turn off mechanism that is the same as backup torches from decades past. The D511 even will operate with 3 C-cells like proper backups should.

Hopefully there is someone who can map this out for in a bit more detail. As I understand the manual, the G2 Tek will only "lock you out for 24 hours 'cause it's a dumb computer" if you are at the surface for more than 3 minutes after having missed a mandatory deco stop, after...
Thanks! I missed that. This will certainly take it off the list for many. Because I'm curious, do the Shearwaters just keep running the calculations after missing a stop? Are they valid? I hope it's obvious I'm not a tech diver. I just enjoy knowing things. Thanks
I was referring to the Perdix 2 having a depth rating of 260 meters, but having a depth sensor that only works properly to 130 meters. The Scubapro has a depth rating of 120 meters, but the depth sensor also works at that depth. In my comparison I said the Perdix goes significantly deeper, but...
I haven't used either (I use a regular G2), but it looks like they are pretty comparable. The G2 Tek can pair with 8 transmitters instead of 4 for the Perdix 2, but the Perdix has a user-replaceable battery and is rated for significantly deeper.
I mean, obviously Shearwater is one of the...
Both ScubaPro and Aqualung should have international parts availability as good as it gets (may not be all that good though). That said, I've found getting my regulator serviced at a dive destination to be more miss than hit. I end up just bringing a spare first and second stage on big trips...
While a bent d-ring is the standard, with it being held in place by a clipped-on backup light that's bungied to the shoulder webbing, I find it more convenient to have one of the stamped "bent" d-rings from Piranha on this page:

I'm sorry to see new members receive such a negative reaction to a pretty harmless idea. People have skinny-dipped in the ocean for millennia with very few appendages being bitten or swum up. It's not a "stupid" activity just because it isn't something you're interested in.
As far as advice...
OTF's comment was about computers where the alarms are customizable, like being able to set a gas reserve vs always alarming at some not-super-useful number.
The first two are a bit old for me, plus they don't have the compass that you'll need. I don't know if they can be set for nitrox. The third is not an air-integrated computer - it is a regular computer in a console with an compass and SPG. It has two buttons, which I like better than the...
I do the opposite (G2 on the right wrist and transmitter on the left) and it never drops a connection for me. I find it a bit more reliable than the Galileo Sol that I had previously, but that only dropped out intermittently.
It sounds like you've made up your mind, but just to keep the conversation going, a couple of points could be made.
1. Many people would enjoy driving the M3 over the Corolla even if it's only 5000 miles per year.
2. I expect my regulators to last my lifetime, and possibly another lifetime...
Remember that a regulator set (for most people) includes 2 second stages. I think your backup should be as high-performing as your primary, so that increases the cost a bit. The Deep6 Signature series that Tbone recommends are the highest value new regulators out there (high-end performance at...
FWIW, from a reliability perspective, MSA firefighter SCBA gear uses lithium-ion batteries. The battery sits between the air cylinder and the firefighter's body to keep it away from the heat.
On a different note, Orcatorch makes some lights that have a twist-on "switch" if that's what you...
