How to choose a Cave Instructor - My opinion

Could not agree with Superlyte more! Caves have claimed the life of many an OWSI. I posted here because of something that happened to me recently. Found out he just thought he could teach deco in a cave. Still does! only been full cave for 2 months according to agency. Maybe these guys think...

How to choose a Cave Instructor - My opinion

And I would add that some of these cave instructors fall into the category of never having an ah **** moment. In addition to Jim's advice and all the advice here I would add: Call the agency to verify the instructors credentials, standing and experience. Ego, Bravado are useless when the chips...

    Orange Grove fatality?

Now that I think about it the lack of information and resultant attention to this incident is probably a good thing. We get to keep diving the site, nobody is bemoaning the sport, and our courageous volunteers can go about the business of diving rather than trying to explain in court what they...

    Orange Grove fatality?

Thanks Kelly. I should have guessed the lack of info was related to an ongoing investigation. What I meant by close to home is that this type of diving (intro) level affects a much larger group of divers of which I am a part. I honestly thought because of the extensive valuable information and...

    Orange Grove fatality?

My money is on that he did not have a formal side mount class. If it was a roll off then he was staging doubles not side mount. Complacency or panic indicates he was unfamiliar with his gear and no muscle memory since the regulator that he was breathing on was right there around his neck! Good...

    Orange Grove fatality?

Looking over the standard I do not see where switching regulators is a drill in either cavern or intro, however it is part of a sidemount class. While I agree that backmount requires less task loading during the dive, once a sidemount diver is comfortable with his gear (after a number of dives)...

    Orange Grove fatality?

Well I did not want to name places were divers are allowed to go beyond their training and it is true that the places in question somehow have insurance for said individual to exceed their training and it is further true that some instructors or higher certified divers are willing to accompany...

    Orange Grove fatality?

Totally agree that Cavern is the most intense part of cave diving where the fundamentals and skills are presented. I find it strange that open water divers can go in the overhead at many sites in Florida with no cavern skill set or equipment. However the state park system does not allow OW...

    Orange Grove fatality?

went to LDS yesterday and heard about this. 2nd hand info was that intro diver was diving with full cave diver, full cave diver reports trouble upon exiting, response which turned out to be recovery, again second hand was that diver had cave gear, air in both tanks, one tank valved closed and...

    SeaLife DC1400 vs. Canon S110??

I have or had (it flooded technically my fault) the DC 1200. Pictures came out great but videos were kind of red. The best pictures involved the strobe. If the strobe is adjusted right you can have some great shots.
