She'll need a doctor's approval anyway. I'd just tell her to do it and that she needs to get a medical. If the doc says she's good to go, she's good to go. If the doc says she's not, at least he did the dirty work of telling her.

That's the problem. I found a store that has one and another that has the other. Each talks up the one they sell and I don't have the luxury to try either in a pool, though I'm sure I'd adjust to either.

How about a semi-dry suit? I ALWAYS get cold. I was in Thailand a month ago and was diving with two wetsuits to keep warm. What you eat makes a difference (especially in my case, as my wife and I are vegetarians). So, here (in Barcelona) everyone wears a semi-dry 7mm.
