Northern V. Island Dive Site Help

Hello: My wife and I recently moved to the Courtenay/Comox area from Nova Scotia. We have a small zodiac we dive out of and I was hoping someone here could give me some direction for some of the local dive sites. Of course GPS numbers for any sites would be ideal, however land marks or any...

Halifax in July; need recommendations please

It's up to you of course, there is a fair amount of life here, but nothing compared to what you'd see on the west coast. The wrecks here really don't present you with much of an opportunity for penetration, aside from the Saguenay in Lunenburg, and some of the very deep stuff I believe. The...

Halifax in July; need recommendations please

I'll second the recommendation for Torpedo Rays. They fill nitrox and trimix if you need it, and run regular charters... a good bunch. You can dive here in the summer with a full 7mm wetsuit, but you would be more comfortable in a drysuit I think, especially if you plan multiple dives per...

where is the best place to dive in Canada?

That really depends on what kind of diving you're looking for. I live and dive on the east coast (Nova Scotia). The diving here is good for life, and there are loads of shipwrecks for all levels of skill. The wrecks are generally quite broken up and often barely resemble ships at all...

opinions wanted on diving near halifax

Sorry, I wasn't sure if you were familiar with their shop. Bear Cove is a popular shore dive, it's a bit of a climb over rocks to get to the water, but the dive is nice if you like large stone formations, there are house sized boulders scattered about. There's a good bit of life in closer...

opinions wanted on diving near halifax

There's a few good shore dives down that way you would probably enjoy. Not sure when you're in town, have you looked at these folks? http://www.torpedorays.com/seawolves/schedule.html It's a good shop, they're just across the harbour in Dartmouth. I don't know what you want...

    Diving in Nova Scotia

As he said, diving for lobsters is a big no-no. On top of the fisheries people, the local fishermen are always watching us when we're out there... they're convinced that we're after their 'gold', arrrrr. The only place where the big tides are an issue is on the Bay of Fundy (north) side...

Suggestions for Good Dives in the Maritimes?

Prince Edward Island It's a province. I can't speak for the diving on the island, I've never done any diving over there. Make the effort to get out in Halifax if you get the opportunity. There's some really nice shore dives, and of course lots of wrecks to choose...

    Trimix for girls??

My wife had the exact same apprehensions about the trainsition to doubles, don't sweat it. I think more than anything you just get used to handling the extra weight. She's fine to climb a boat ladder in snotty weather, twin 100's and a 40 deco bottle with her drysuit and weight belt... albeit...

Eastern Canada Divers, Add your favorite dive spots to our directory!

If you mean the ' The Combined Atlantic Diver Guide ' by David N. Barron, I believe it has gone out of print. It's a shame, since it is such a good resource. If you're lucky you may be able to pick up a copy somewhere. http://www.northernmaritimeresearch.com/guide.html

a SCUBA diver was almost killed at a local marina in St.Margaret's Bay

The assertion that there was anything in my original post that could be referred to as 'vicious', is ridiculous to the point of being offensive. I'm well aware that the moderators are all volunteers, your friendly reminder is the same thing that is posted everytime someone contests...

a SCUBA diver was almost killed at a local marina in St.Margaret's Bay

I don't know who removed one of my posts earlier, and I have no idea why it was removed. There was no personal attack made, and I certainly wasn't bickering with anyone. I commented on a diver's admitted diving beyond their level of training, the fact that they showed little concern over the...

OMS IQ pack...Just the Harness not whole package

My wife dives with the IQ harness, singles and doubles, she loves it. I'm a hog diver myself, but she prefers the ability to adjust the harness and the extra bit of comfort... works fine for a single 130 or her twin 100's.

    Diving in Halifax this summer

Hi Marilyn Welcome to the board. There's plenty of good diving in the Halifax area for you to enjoy during your stay, be it shore or boat/wreck diving that you're after. I would personally recommend these folks in Dartmouth www.torpedorays.com . They have a nice shop, good people and...

a SCUBA diver was almost killed at a local marina in St.Margaret's Bay

I think most would agree that 142' is outside of recreational diving limits, I can't see what being a 'master diver' has to do with it. I don't know much about ACUC, I couldn't find a master diver rating on their website. I guess you mean PADI master diver, which is what..? 5...
