    Peregrine Battery

Can you replace the battery in a Peregrine yourself, or is the case built so you have to return the unit to an authorized dealer for battery replacement?

Big Island - Checkout dives for a kid

I'd go with one of the shops you've had good personal experience with than a recommendation from a stranger on Scubaboard. Having said that, Pacific Rim is a small operator I've dove with in the past and they are good.

    LA County Underwater Unit ADP?

Looks like the info is on their Facebook page, which is LA County Underwater Unit.

    LA County Underwater Unit ADP?

It is really too bad that such a fine program can't get its act together better. If their website is down, perhaps you could suggest they post info on Scubaboard.

    Wetwear Custom Hood - Review

Poorly designed seams and they don't use the neoprene that you order? I can understand why they get mixed reviews. I still don't know why they appear to be the only custom wetsuit maker using Rubatex when others did before.

    Wetwear Custom Hood - Review

If you go over to the Decostop or Spearboard, you'll see that Wetwear has gotten mixed reviews for years. Customer service and ownership attitude have been a regular theme. The few people I know who ordered suits from them at the Long Beach Scuba Show were very unhappy with the fit. They were...

    Surf wetsuit vs Diving wetsuit?

The surf suit can be cheaper than the same thickness dive suit. I find that a 3 mil surf suit works just fine for me in warm water diving. A brand new suit will always seem superior to the suit it is replacing as it has not gone through the wear and tear of the old suit.

Imigran and similar triptan migraine medications?

The article is describing migraines not cluster headaches. Cluster headaches are not of variable intensity, they are excruciating, and also referred to as "suicide headaches." They don't occur periodically. They occur in clusters that can last for weeks or months at a time (same time of day...

    Sea sickness and liveaboards

In addition to the patch, you can also get Scopalomine in pill form either through a compounding pharmacy or by just buying Kwells online. Each pill is usually good for about 8 hours. You can develop a certain tolerance to motion sickness, but it can takes days at sea to do so and it doesn't...

Kona diving - Jack's or Big Island Divers

It is a long drive to Puako, but I think it is worthwhile to get around the island. If you go,www.puakodivecompany.com. They lead shore dives in Puako. It helps having a local in terms of getting in and out and where to go. You'll want hard soled booties. It's a rocky beach. As far as the...

    Wet suit thickness

I have to agree with Ojai Diver. I've lasted in 48 degree water, 3 dives a day for 3 consecutive days with a quality 7 mm, skin in, farmer john. The dry suit guys on board were the ones sitting out dives. On the other hand, warmth is a personal matter. Ultimately, the OP is going to have to...

    Truk/Kosrae/Pohnpei

Thanks everyone for the comments. I have done Palau, but not Yap. I'll have to look into that. I'll also have to take a look at the flight schedules regarding Pohnpei as a possible warmup to Truk

    Truk/Kosrae/Pohnpei

I’m thinking of going on the Odyssey in Truk for a week and then doing an add on to Kosrae or Pohnpei. For those who have been to Kosrae or Pohnpei, how many days would you suggest? If you have done both, which one did you prefer? My thought was to do Kosrae/Pohnpei afterTruk. Is there any...

    Flights to Palau

Flying from the West Coast, I've gone through Hawaii and that worked out fine. You get a break on the ground there, which is nice, and then its on to Guam. The connection in Guam is tight, but they hold the plane. It's a long flight, but if you doze on the plane it's not too bad because you...

    Dedicated Warm Water Rig

I use the Oxycheq fabric plate while traveling and a SS BP at home. I don't notice any difference in tank movement. Both setups use an Oxycheq wing with "roll control." I dive steel tanks at home and aluminium on the road.

    Big Disappointment at Big Sur

I did Big Sur on the Vision a few years ago. It was rough and cold (around 48 degrees), but we managed to get in 3 dives a day with reasonably good viz. The swim step is a problem no matter what. I'm surprised they haven't re-designed it.

Diver killed by fishing boat - Hawaii

They are required in West Maui at least on shore dives. I've seen local police berating and threatening to confiscate dive gear from instructors who ignore the rule. Not sure about the rest of Maui or the other islands. I assume it is a county by county thing.

How do I dive in California!?

If you are debating between Shaws and Crescent, I'd go with Shaws. The wave action tends to be less there and it is a short swim to the reef.

    Hotels in Palau

I also dove with Sam's and had a great time. They are a much larger operation than PDA, so it is busier in the mornings and afternoons when the boats are going out and coming back, but when I was there in February only had 6 divers on the boat. Their Bottom Time Bar and Grill is a nice place to...
