    diving farallon islands

Chuck Tribolet has been out there a few times...even has a list of procedures to follow, IIRC. Also, for what it's worth, Bluewater Gold Rush/The Odyssey of a California Sea Urchin Diver has some great accounts of what diving the Farallons are like.

Looking for good dive shop in Monterey

You might want to book a charter with Sanctuary. I was out with them last weekend and the capt, who seemed like a very cool dude, was taking a new-to-Monterey diver for what turned out to be some very nice diving.

I need two divers this weekend $$$

Why don't you think about hiring lifeguards? The skill sets for lifeguarding and scuba diving don't really overlap.

    MoCal Hotel Recommedations

Yeah, what he said. I've probably stayed in 20 different Monterey hotels over the years and, in the two star range, one is as good as another.

August 30, 2009 report: Big Sur boat

Yeah, I can't imagine anything I'd want to do less than bounce along at 7 knots against that northern swell I saw on Sunday all the way back from the Point Sur lighthouse. The Cypress Sea can take heavy weather better than most but DAMN, I'll bet it took you guys a good three hours to motor the...

Anyone interested in a Big Sur trip?

Pick a fast boat, if possible. The further south you get (Esalen Institute, and the like) the more....interesting the diving gets. And, yes, I'd like to second the comments about being careful because, if you mess up, help is a long ways off - or will cost a large fortune.

Huge visibility on the North Coast

Heh, I can't say I'm surprised to hear these reports...I've just gotten back from a week at Bodega Bay and topside conditions were just freakishly clear and calm - I figured the diving had to be just amazing.

Dive Report: 25.Oct.08 - Mono Lobo

[chuckles] Yeah, we saw you guys, you went right under the boat. We were taking a look around and trying to figure out where you came from..... "Naaaaa, they didn't swim THAT far, did they?" [looks for kayak] How was the exit? The swells looked to be building and it was breaking...

Dive Report: 25.Oct.08 - Mono Lobo

I was one of the divers on the big Catmaran you probably saw hanging out at Monastery on Saturday and we also saw a BIG bat ray. I wouldn't be surprised if they were one in the same....and, if so, that's really cool.

    Integrated weight vs. non-integrated

If you go weight integrated with that steel 100 of yours, your BC is going to weight a ton, something that might be an issue if you have to lift it out of the water onto a boat.
