So, why do they do that?

I am NAUI certified and my card doesn't have numbers, other than Location of training, date of training and instructor info. yes my name is on it, but not my picture, Nor DOB, or SSN. However, if you call up NAUI, they will tell you they use your SSN for your actual number, its just not posted...

Were to go in cozumel and grand cayman

I dove with Dive Paradise out of Cozumel. Excellent service!!! The entire staff was very professional, and the atmosphere was fun. You can check them out online at http://www.diveparadise.com We dove the Santa Rosa Wall Reef first, then the C-53 (I forget the long long name of it now)...

Do you have your own tank?

I agree with what some of the others are saying. Depending on how you treat your tanks will determine it's individual life expectancy. I perform Hydro and VIP inspections, the VIP inspection itself will not harm a tank, Hydro however, due to marking the tank with stamps will weaken it over a...

    VIP mandated tank destruction ??

I agree with what everyone else says. Request a replacement tank since they had no right to destroy your tank. As mentioned, there is no law to back up what they say. If they refuse, seek council and sue them. Plain and simple. Hope things work out for you. =-)

    Cozumel Dive!!

What can I say....OUTSTANDING! I recently traveled to Cozumel and dove with the Dive Paradise (http://www.diveparadise.com) dive shop and had a blast! Unfortunately I was unable to spend alot of time diving due to my schedule, but I was able to get 2 dives in. One dive was on the Santa Rosa...

    Mares Syncro Power Tech

I have owned my BC for about year and half so far and I have loved every dive with it. It is very comfortable, I have tons of intergrated weight area. I usually keep 6 lbs of softweight in the removable pouches and the rest of the weight always goes in the rear side pouchs with the snap...

    Tank boot..yes or no??

Yes, we have a lot. Concidering the cost of a tank boot, which is cheap. compaired to the damage done to boats from careless people. The boat owners made it mandentory. Small price to pay. Not that it is wrong or right, but after seeing first hand what happens to a boat after a bit of short...

    Tank boot..yes or no??

No LDS charter or boat owner around here will let ANYONE on their boat unless your tank has a boot on it. Tanks without boots can damage the boat, the boot 1) protects your tank and most importantly 2) prevents damage to the boats. There is :nono: no option or room to negotiate around here...

What would you consider your level to be?

Advanced - definately. I've been diving since 1984 and enjoyed every dive since. I have not ventured into "nitrox" diving just yet, but that is something that I want to get into here soon. I doubt that I will ever explore the regions of the "really insane deepness" that the Techie do. :notworthy

Mares Volos going for real cheap at Diveinn.

From what I've read on other posts, the Volo fin from Mares wears out pretty quick. The hinge point breaks. Here is a thread you can read: Mares Volo Fin Thread Some say they are great, others had problems. I don't have them, but I have a buddy at my LDS that used to use them and his...

    Heating a tank up

They give the tank back, but as you well guess, the DOT numbers and other tank info is all XXXXX'ed out. They will dispose of it if you want though. One guy made a interesting bell out of one of his failed tanks, by cutting it in half. hehehe =-)

    Heating a tank up

The place we all go to for Hydro's around here only charge you a fee if your Hydro passes inspection. If the tank fails and must be condemmed, then NO CHARGE. It works for us. :sharky:

    Heating a tank up

I work for a LDS and perform the VIPS, if given the scenerio you provided happened, I would not perform a VIP or refill the tank until that tank is Hydro'd again. My boss would back me 100%. The customer will be irked a little, but when it comes down to safety (the customer and ours) he will...

I want to go Apeks, but LDS pushing Scubapro

My vote would be to get with what your comfortable with and what you want. Don't get something that someone else loves or wants you to get. Your not getting it for them. If your LDS doesn't sell the regs you want, find out if he can get them. If not, then go elsewhere for the purchase of the...
